Cops Suspect Amritpal Singh Changed Appearance, Share Many Looks
From shaggy to clean shaven, Punjab Police today released the avatars or possible looks of fugitive Amritpal Singhleader Khalistani has been on the run for the past four days and hopes that people can help spot him.
Police released a set of seven photos in which the 30-year-old radical preacher, who styled himself after Sikh terrorist leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, is seen in various guises and turbans.
Today, in footage exclusively accessed by NDTV, Amritpal Singh is seen getting out of a car and ride it with his assistants on bicycles.
Earlier in the day, the Punjab and Haryana High Court criticizes Punjab police and questioned how Amritpal Singh could let them slide continuously.
“You have 80,000 policemen. What are they doing. How did Amritpal Singh escape?” The Supreme Court questioned the Punjab government, calling it an intelligence failure.
Punjab launched a major search on Saturday for Amritpal Singh, who has surfaced in recent months demanding the establishment of Khalistan, a separate Sikh homeland.
Amritpal Singh and his supporters, armed with swords, knives and guns, raided a police station last month after one of the preacher’s aides was arrested on charges of assault and conspiracy kidnap.
Several policemen were injured during the blatant daytime raid on the outskirts of Amritsar, pressuring authorities to act.
According to official sources, Amritpal Singh has maintained close links with the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and several terrorist groups based abroad, PTI news agency reported.
The Khalistani leader is believed to be close to UK-based Khalistani terrorist Avtar Singh Khanda and he is believed to be a key factor behind his rise to prominence. He is alleged to have built a “private militia” of young men from drug rehab centers, to use in violent protests.
