Connect Haskoy Lose St Leger Appeal

Haskoy (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}), the filth who passed second row in G1 Cazoo St Leger and was demoted to fourth by reason of inference, will remain in that position after the connections become unattractive on Tuesday.

Purebred Juddmonte, with Frankie Dettori in the iron, is considered to have interfered with Giavellotto (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) was of enough nature to put her behind that Marco Botti-trained pony, race day managers determined.

During the appeal hearing, two incidents were reviewed by the UK’s independent disciplinary panel – an incident between three and two stakes where the horse trained by Ralph Beckett drifted towards the tracks inside, and again after that once racer Neil Callan rebalanced Giavellotto and closed the door again. The race was won by Eldar Eldarov (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), with New London (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) came in second, Giavellotto third and Haskoy fourth.

Callan said, “About two and a half hours, I started moving and I noticed Mr. Dettori glanced over his shoulder so I yelled to tell him I was there. I was carried left and ran out of the room.

“I lost my momentum and had to get my horse back up again after more outside intervention and then Mr. Dettori backed out so I went to the railing again, but half way from the house Mr. Dettori changed his whip and his dog leaned over to attack me again costing me more ground.

“I would say I gave myself 100 per cent for half the long way and then when the winner passed me halfway and I knew I was beaten by the others, I made it. 80%,” Dettori said. will then be suspended for five days for the trip.

“I can’t judge Mr Callan’s ride, my own alone, but I disagree that Giavellotto passed me behind the line, which means he would have beaten me otherwise. I reduced the spins in the second half because I couldn’t win.”

Board Chairman Timothy Charlton KC said in his closing remarks, “There was significant interference just before and right after the long two-way marker that caused Giavellotto to lose a lot of distance and momentum.

“Without that, he would have run to the line with no traffic and would have started a serious challenge at that point. Instead, Mr Callan had to take a quick step back to avoid getting caught in his heel, causing him more trouble with Danny Tudhope’s mount. [French Claim (Fr) (French Fifteen {Fr})] this adds to the loss of balance and momentum as Haskoy crosses in front of him.

“When Giavellotto returned to the tracks, he was thwarted again as Haskoy squeezed him.

“The board fully recognizes the dangers of an arithmetical approach to cases like these, especially when the intervention is so far away, but despite those uncertainties, the panel was convinced that Haskoy’s intervention prevented Giavellotto from finishing ahead of Haskoy.

“In the panel’s view, the deposit should be returned [to the connections of Haskoy] as perfectly respectable arguments have been made to us.
