There was a fatal accident on Saturday in Wildwood, New Jersey, in a non-working auto meetup called H2Oi, the so-called “most-ticketed auto show in America.” A motorist was later arrested and charged with multiple counts in connection with the incident, suggesting that the wheel of the criminal justice system is turning well, although a congressman, who is a Republican , also took the opportunity this week to release a statement. blame the real problem, which is the Democrats.
Congressman, named “Jefferson Van Drew,” issued the following statement on Sunday, which I hadn’t seen until this morning, when our South Jersey correspondent, Tom McParland, flagged it. Also, to this day I had no idea that this congressman existed. Also, it’s Sunday, and I have a life. Anyway, here’s Van Drew’s full statement:
“I would like to thank the police officers, first responders, EMTs and firefighters for assisting those affected in this reckless incident. Across the country, we’re watching leaders implement policies that are weak on crime and consistently disrespect our police and first responders. For years now, far-left Democrats have mocked our police and sought to strip police funding and it’s no wonder crime has skyrocketed. When leaders downplay and downplay our police officers, it means that individuals believe this type of behavior is acceptable and will not go unpunished. And now we’re seeing it right at home in South Jersey. President Biden and the Democratic majority in Congress must stop allowing professional criminals to take to the streets, we must detain individuals for heinous crimes until trial, and prosecutors must comply with the provisions of the law when making judgments.
“Our legislators have made it clear that those who commit crimes and threaten law-abiding Americans are completely unacceptable and that punishments will be severe over time. Our police officers need support and funding to ensure that Americans are safe and protected. I will make sure to provide this support and make it clear that these types of criminals have no place in South Jersey.
“My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives.”
Now, if you’re wondering why this statement has no specifics and only blames unnamed Democrats and Joe Biden, well, it’s just politics. For actual information on what went down, we’ll have to turn to “media”, like NJ.com, report on friday that local officials, in fact, thought they had a way of handling the situation that led to it but were ultimately overwhelmed. None of them mentioned Democrats or Joe Biden.
“There was no way that we could have foreseen that would happen,” Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron said during the Cape May County Council meeting on Wednesday night.
“We feel that we’ve got enough coverage to protect our citizens until that happens because there’s no way we can know.”
According to the state’s attorney general, at least 30 state soldiers responded, as well as officers from surrounding towns, including Central Town, through mutual aid arrangements. The Cape May prosecutor’s office said much of the blame lay with the organizers of the suspended event.
“Directing hundreds, if not thousands, of people to drive high-performance vehicles to an area without any planning, staging, or authorization has created chaos that has led to terrible accidents. these deaths and injuries,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a statement.
Prosecutors said the chaos from the protest affected Wildwood and surrounding communities in Rio Grande and Seaville.
“Anyone thinking of getting involved in organizing any of these similar pop-ups is forewarned that there will be a prompt and appropriate legal and enforcement response,” he said.
Van Drew, I’ll note, was a Democrat for over a decade before changing parties, presumably because he realized that South Jersey, which is where his congressional district is, contains lots of Republicans. I’ll also note that unsanctioned car shows are bad, street racing is bad, and that there are really no winners here, though there is some sweaty-sounding guy yammering on about Democrats, though there are a lot of those kinds of guys in New Jersey. If only Joe Brandon had done something.
