Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused Parliament of being politically placid, claiming their protest dressed in black was actually against the founding ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Pointing out that today is the anniversary of the founding, he said that Parliament, by holding the protest in black, “is sending a subtle message that they are protesting the founding of Ram Janmabhoomi and are doing their appeasement policy.”
Congress reacted, saying it was a desperate attempt to “divert, distract, polarize and create a toxic turn” for the pro-democracy protests against the price hike.
“The Minister of Home Affairs has made a desperate attempt to divert, distract, polarize and give a malicious opinion to @INCIndia’s pro-democracy protests today against the price hikes, unemployment and GST. It’s only a sick mind that can make bogus arguments. It’s clear that protests have hit the house!” tweeted Jairam Parliament senior leader Ramesh.
The anti-Parliament march – planned since last week – turned into a large line today. Delhi police, refusing to allow the protest, arrested key party leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
“This is about court-registered cases. Why are they holding protests every day? I feel Congress has a hidden agenda – they’ve expanded their appeasement policy a bit. disguised way,” said Shah, who is in charge of law and order in Delhi.
Questioning the timing of the protest, he said, “Today, the Bureau of Enforcement did not summon anyone or question anyone. No raid happened… I don’t understand why. protest must be held today.”
“I acknowledge that it was on this day that Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the groundwork for Ram Janmabhoomi, offering a peaceful solution to a 550-year-old problem. Nowhere in the country has there been riotous violence. .. I would say that a policy of appeasement is not good for the country, nor for the National Assembly,” said the Interior Minister.
Parliament has held numerous protests in Delhi and other states since the Law Enforcement Bureau began questioning the Gandhis in an alleged money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper. Almost all of them end in police action and injury to many people, especially elderly MPs and former ministers.
Congress started today’s protest by wearing black to parliament. The proceedings were adjourned amid an uproar over alleged abuse of government probe agencies.
As the march to Rashtrapati Bhavan began shortly thereafter, dramatic images showed police grappling with the ringleaders, trying to stop and detain them.
Opposition parties condemned the police action when a video of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra being dragged away by police went viral on social media.
The leaders were released in the evening after nearly six hours.
Congress and other opposition parties have repeatedly raised questions in parliament against the recent price hikes, the expansion of the Goods and Services tax margin, and the recent unemployment rate. Protests are being held inside and outside parliament.
