Concept Of Seva Older Than Corporate Social Responsibility: RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat
Mumbai:
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Director Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said the concept of “Seva” or service in Indian culture is much older than the idea of Corporate Social Responsibility.
He was speaking after the inauguration of Seva Bhavan, an institute set up to provide health services at subsidized prices by an organization affiliated with RSS.
“What we call ‘Seva’ (services) is deeply ingrained in our society, compared to the more recent concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. Our view towards Seva is that we don’t expect anything in return,” Bhagwat said.
“Seva is sometimes defined as a service, but there (in the case of a service) you expect something in return. In our Seva tradition, people not only face appreciation but also (sometimes) criticism and opposition,” he said.
Mr. Bhagwat also said that ‘Dharma’ in the Indian tradition is not a ceremony but an obligation. “Human duty is ‘Seva’,” he added.
