College football leaders can vote on CFP expansion on Friday

College football expands the playoff playing field as it always seems inevitable. Now it looks like the migration could happen sooner rather than later.

The governing board of the College Football League, which is the top-level governing body of the CFP, is see you on friday. The board of directors includes presidential representatives from each of the FBS and Notre Dame conferences.

According to some media, the council is expected to vote on whether to expand the playoff playing field from 4 to 12 teams.

If unanimously votes in favor of the 12-team playoff, the CFP could consider implementing a larger playoff field for the 2024 season. If a vote is not unanimous, such a change is unlikely to take place. until 2026.

Another issue expected to be discussed is broadcast rights for the CFP. So far, ESPN has an agreement to broadcast all CFP games. Some college football figures want to see other CFP-related networks.

There seems to be a popular format for a 12-team playoff.

That format will include:
– 6 highest ranked conference champions receive automatic docks
– The next 6 highest ranked teams get big landings
– The 4 highest ranked conference champions bid their farewells in the first round
– The first round was played on campus
– Quarterfinals and semi-finals are held on six-bowl shootouts

Other sticking points the board needs to determine include: how revenue will be distributed and how the Rose Bowl will fit.

For those who love a bigger playoff, this should be welcome news. And you know what’s next? Once they approve a 12-team knockout, 16-team will likely follow.
