CoD: Modern Warfare 2 – Here’s everything you can unlock before season 1

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 arrives on October 28, and Activision has detailed all the challenges and level progressions available on day one. This gives players 20 days of pre-season leveling up to unlock weapons, attachments, and some additional operators to use on multiplayer, Spec Ops, and upcoming Warzone 2.0.

Weapon Progress

In addition to leveling up in the military ranks, players will also want to level up on Modern Warfare 2’s Weapon Platforms. The game features 33 Platforms and a total of 51 weapons to unlock, most of which are fully functional. there are attachments to unlock.

With this new Weapon Platform system, each Platform has a unique progress tree that details every unlock within that platform. For example, once a particular barrel is unlocked for a gun, it will then be made available to all weapons in that same Shared Platform. Some attachments will be Platform-specific, while others will be shared widely with other compatible weapons. This may sound more complicated than it needs to be, but this basically allows players to unlock attachments faster, as they don’t have to unlock the same attachments over and over again for different types. different guns.

Activision also teases that it’s worth upgrading all Gun Platforms, as “intel suggests” that those universal category and platform-specific attachments can also be fitted to weapons coming in season after debut.

Reaching the maximum level with the weapon also benefits Modern Warfare 2’s new weapon tuning feature, as the max level unlocks the weapon tuning option to further customize and refine the attachments . Each attachment will have sliders to adjust for one property or another. Weapon tuning is basically a game of cause and effect. For example, tweaking a crate for better recoil would have a tradeoff to affect another attribute like movement speed.

Operators

By default, players will have access to a Mil-Sim operator for both KorTac and SpecGru factions in Modern Warfare 2. Additionally, there are 18 additional operators that can be unlocked by playing battle translation, multiplayer and Spec Ops.

However, it should be noted that four of the operators can only be unlocked through completing the campaign in early access. This is all the rewards and details for completing these challenges before the launch of Modern Warfare 2.

Challenge

Daily and career challenges will also be available to grind for extra XP. The Multiplayer and Spec Ops modes each have three daily challenges and one bonus challenge.

Types of Multiplayer Challenges:

  • A general challenge may not require a lot of gameplay changes
  • Weapon challenge focuses on a specific weapon
  • A special challenge that encourages exploration with specific Loadout features, such as using perks or domain-specific upgrades
  • After completing all three dailies, a bonus challenge will open. This is a “split” goal that allows you to make progress towards either goal. When either objective is completed, XP rewards will be given.

Special activity challenges:

  • The first day is general, which means it can be completed in any task.
  • The second and third daily challenges can be general or task specific or cooperative specific.
  • The Bounty Challenge is a “split” objective with the choice of one of two mission challenges.

The multiplayer dailies only award XP, but two of the Spec Ops dailies will award Spec Ops Stars on top of XP. (More on the Star below)

Modern Warfare 2 also includes typical career challenges at launch, allowing players to earn XP and calling cards. These are general milestone challenges, such as getting a specific kill count, shooting range, and using specific gear.

Operation parameters

In addition to leveling up multiplayer, players can also progress through Special Activities in different ways. Spec Ops is a co-op mission mode in which players choose Kits that act as in-game roles built around the Star system.

Stars can be earned each week through completing Spec Ops missions.

The player earns one Star for completing the mission. Three more Stars are earned by completing quests under certain conditions, such as within a deadline. After earning the maximum number of Stars (three) in a mission, the player can no longer earn additional Stars for the week solely through completing the mission. After that, Additional Stars can only be earned by the Daily Special Activity challenges mentioned above.

Career Stars and Kits

In Spec Ops, each Star earned counts towards two systems: Career Stars and Kit Stars, the latter of which is tied to progression in Kit Tiers.

Career Stars are used to unlock bonuses like Extra Kits. For example, the Unlocker Kit is at 1 Star and the Unlock Toolkit is at 3. While earning a Career Star, the player will also earn a Star that is specially used for the Kit. that they play with on missions.

Earning Toolkit Stars allows players to level up through Toolkit Tiers, providing more active and passive abilities when playing with that Kit. For example, upgrading the Attack Kit increases the use of Faster Load items, increases armor, and equips Free Stimuli.

This same Kit system is being used for Modern Warfare 2’s Raids after launch, so you should start leveling these Kits in Spec Ops to be better equipped for completing the first Raid, as well as using them in Spec Ops missions that will come with seasonal updates.

Camo challenges finishers

The camo sharpening challenge is a Call of Duty tradition for many players, and Activision has revealed what players can expect to unlock with its base and mastery camo challenges. There will be over 180 unique base camos available at launch. There are also four proficient camos to unlock.

  • Gold camo challenges for each weapon are available after all of its basic camo challenges are completed.
  • The Platinum camo challenge for each weapon is available once the Gold camo is unlocked on a minimum number of weapons in each category.
  • The multi-atom camo challenge for each weapon is available once the Platinum camo is unlocked on a minimum of 51 weapons.
  • Orion camo is a bonus for unlocking Polyatomic camo on a minimum of 51 weapons. It is also automatically granted on any weapon that earns Orion camo beyond its minimum requirement.

While all of this progress is available on day one, there will likely be more seasonal challenges as Season 1 kicks off with the launch of Warzone 2.0 on November 16.
