Co-op sub sim Barotrauma will stop accessing early this spring

barotrauma is a co-op sci-fi submarine sim which is a great thing. It’s been navigating the murky depths of early access for the past three years but is now gearing up for version 1.0 this spring. Preparation in this case means “pre-patch” with “final fixes and changes” that the development team wants to make before the critical release date and increase the price in a two-week period.

“For multiplayer, the most notable additions in this pre-patch are the reworked status effects and poisons,” said. Steam patch notes post. The developers say the bad news is that these changes will break some mods – although they hope the creators of those mods will get a chance to fix things before 1.0.

The changes to poisons seem substantial, as they can now be used on monsters and the effects of poisons are more varied.

“In preparation for our 1.0 release, we will be adjusting the price of Barotrauma on Steam in two weeks, on February 10th,” the post said. So there’s two weeks left to buy it at original price – or less, provided it Currently 80% off on Steam, to “give everyone one last good deal on the game before we get to version 1.0.” There is no disclosure on Barotrauma’s new price after the change.

We haven’t had a good look at Barotrauma since it was first released, when we sent exactly the person you want to join the underwater expedition, Nate Crowley. Nate finds it raw, but a hoax, like a modern successor to Space Station 13. I’m curious to see what it will look like after three years of updates.
