Climber dies and another injured after avalanche on Ben Nevis | UK News
One climber was killed and another injured after an avalanche on the north face of Ben Nevis.
Police Scotland said they became aware of the avalanche at around 3.35pm on Friday.
The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and a helicopter were dispatched to help the two climbers during the difficult weather conditions.
A 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for the rescue team said they were called after being alerted to the avalanche and locating two casualties.
They added: “Sadly one person was seriously injured and the other was seriously injured after sliding 600 meters (approximately).
“With the weather creating some difficult conditions, the helicopter is limited in the support it can provide.”
The spokesman said it took eight hours to transfer the casualties to the hospital in the harsh conditions.
