Citroen eC3: powertrain and battery details

The EC3 will be powered by a 30.2 kWh battery pack sourced from Chinese company Svolt, although Citroen is looking to localize it for longer periods of time. The Citroen EV will have a built-in 3.3 kW AC charger and will also have CCS2 fast charging capabilities. The eC3’s front-axle-mounted electric motor is said to produce 63kW (86hp) and 143Nm of torque.

At launch, eC3 will be aimed squarely at Tata Tiago . tram, uses a 24kWh battery pack at the higher spec for an ARAI-rated range of 315km. As a result, the eC3 can be expected to have an ARAI rated range of around 350 km.

Exterior and interior remain the same to save costs

EC3 will look almost identical to its ICE counterpart, inside and out. The only difference on the exterior is the absence of an exhaust pipe and a new charging port located on the front fender. Meanwhile, the interior will likely see a revised center console, with a new transmission control unit that will replace the manual shift lever. All other exterior, interior and mechanical body panels, which have been localized to the petrol-powered C3, will remain unchanged.

This was done to optimize costs for the eC3, and sharing parts and components with its ICE partner will help achieve better economies of scale. Affordable pricing remains the biggest challenge for electric vehicles, but Citroen is confident it will be able to price vehicles competitively. And while no price range has been specified yet, it is safe to assume it will cost around Rs 10 lakh-12 lakh.

Citroen will also export the eC3 from India, which will also be crucial in boosting overall C3 volumes which are already disappointingly low by segment standards.
