It was initially thought that Benn (21-0.14 KOs), a career welterweight division, would face middleweight (32-2.23 KOs), who also campaigned at 168lbs, as one former world champion athlete and will be down to his lowest weight ever, at 156 lbs, but Dan’s sources insist that weight gain is allowed by one pound, with a fine $100,000 per pound per boxer if they exceed that weight.
It was in 1990 and again in 1993 that Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn fought in two brutal matches for the world championship.
Eubank Sr took the first win through the ninth inning, claiming the WBO middleweight title in the process, but the second match, which took place at the super-middleweight, ended in a draw.
Now, 29 years have passed, except for one day, their sons will clash.
And Eubank Jr., 32 years old, who was informed of the war by Benn that he will suffer his first defeat by stopping in the clashknows the struggle the 25-year-old has endured in his professional career so far.
“He was on the same path as me. I know his struggles. Live in the shadow of a legend and try to break out of that shadow and make a name for yourself.
“If he can defeat me, his name will be made and he will never walk in his father’s shadow again.”
