Chris Eubank Jr. and Liam Williams

Via Mark Eisner: Chris Eubank Jr will head tonight against Liam Williams in their middleweight rivalry in Cardiff. Battle Cards will be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK, starting at 3:00pm ET.

Williams (23-3-1, 18 KOs) is entering the fight as the underdog, but he has a chance for the boxer to undo his sadness against his favorite puncher Eubank Jr (31- 2.23 KOs). The winner of the fight can get a title in 2022.

In the main support round, Claressa Shields will defend her middleweight title against challenger Ema Kozin.

Boxing News will update live and results below.

  • Strong candidate Otto Wallin (23-1, 14 KOs) worked hard to make an eight point decision instead of always being reliable Kamil Sokolowski (11-25-2, 4KOs). The big players 6’5 ′ Swede Wallin looked sluggish, often caught off guard by unexpected combinations from Sokolowski. However, Wallin, 31, continued the fight at his high work rate, beating the laner with close-range strokes and then stepping back to land the lead. The score is 79-74. This is Wallin’s first fight since last February. Wallin was supposed to face British heavyweight Dillian Whyte last October, but the fight fell through due to a shoulder injury in promoted Matchroom boxer.

Eubank Jr has no respect for Williams

“What should have happened is that they had to stage a fight between me and [Jermall] Charlo,” Eubank Jr. talk to Gareth A. Davies in the battle that Chris missed due to COVID.

“We had to stage a fight between him and me,” said Eubank Jr. speak. “You just wonder what will happen. COVID failed, where am I now?

“I could be the world champion right now. I’m really happy to be here in the UK and fighting on Sky Sports. I had a big fight in the country [Liam Williams] that probably never would have happened if I had stayed in the states.

“From there, there are some big fights in 2022. We are on the right track and these new years are going to be huge, I believe,” said Eubank Jr.

“As you say, you’re still pushing the fight with Jermall Charlo, but I know you mentioned Gennadiy Golovkin as a fight you really wanted,” Davies said. “I think it was a great game of style, but we mustn’t ignore Liam Williams.

“There is an element that he feels a grudge against you. He says he doesn’t like you. We’ve seen you together in press conferences, and the game has been postponed twice. It makes it bigger. Style makes the fight and we know this excites us.

“We know that Williams is a dog. He loves to fight, and he probably only knows one way to do it. He will probably want to involve you in a dogfight. I imagine you wouldn’t take him lightly, and you have to take this game very seriously because he’s a heavyweight.

Davies told Eubank Jr.

“As a person, it’s no secret that I don’t respect him and don’t like him,” Eubank Jr said of Liam. “He is the type of person who gives the sport a bad name, and people like him should be kicked out of the sport.

“That was my plan. I wanted to take him away from the sport of boxing,” Eubank Jr said of Williams. “Anyone can speak the way he speaks. Online, you have kids who look at us like warriors and they copy us.

“So when you have a guy talking about someone’s family saying things that need to be said, the kids will look at him and say, ‘That’s what I’m going to do when I start fighting.’ It’s not good for sports. So it would be very uncomfortable on my part,” said Eubank Jr. speak.

Williams has a “stupid” style

“Like you said, he has a very tenacious fighting style and suits me perfectly. I can box, I can fight, I can punch. I can approach this fight any way I see fit.

“I’ll feel him for a while or so, and then I’ll decide how I’m going to get rid of him. That would be domination, complete domination on my part. I trained really hard for this fight.

“Failures are a problem, but we both have to deal with them, so it’s fair game and I can’t wait,” Eubank Jr.

“Obviously you’re going into Liam Williams territory all the way to Cardiff. It’s going to get into the lion’s den in a lot of ways because he’s going to have most of the support, as it’s a Welsh crowd,” said Davies.

“You could see that he didn’t want to be there,” Eubank Jr said of him and Williams being filmed for the Sky Sports ‘Gloves are Off’ special. “I buried the guy for half an hour.

“All told, a true keyboard warrior, he is, and yes, he dug himself a hole that he will try to climb out. He’s going to try a lot, but my job is to go in and knock him out and get him out of there,” Eubank Jr said when describing what he was up to with Liam.

“So you’re predicting an overtime win for yourself?” Davies said.

“I think so, yes,” said Eubank Jr. “He’s not one of those runners. He is not difficult to grasp. I don’t see any great defense, so I don’t see how the fight could last 12 rounds. He also doesn’t have a great chin. He’s been knocked down before.

“So I don’t see any way he can win the match,” Eubank Jr said. “He wouldn’t equate me, and he wouldn’t fight me. I don’t think he has the strength to knock me down, but this is the great thing about boxing.

“Boxers can be so sure, and you can say all this leads to a fight, and then when we’re in the ring, one punch changes everything. You never know when it will come,” said Eubank Jr.
