CHRB Completes Medina . Post-Examination Assessment

Pursuant to California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) Rule 1846.6, an Autopsy Review (PER) has been completed of Medina Spirit’s sudden death. This process takes place for every death that occurs in a CHRB-managed facility and is carried out by a team consisting of an Official Veterinarian, a safety manager and a member of the Management Board – in this case are Dr. Alina Vale, David Neusch (safety manager), and Kim Sawyer (manager).
In all cases, the PER team attempted to understand the circumstances surrounding the death, including reviewing the necropsy report, medical records, and training records in an effort to identify any predisposing factors. risk to prepare for interviews with trainers, participating veterinarians, and any other licensees deemed appropriate. More detailed description is provided in Rule 1846.6.
Based on the results of the autopsy and autopsy review on the Medina Spirit, the CHRB did not identify any potential CHRB violations that required further investigation.
