LG’s C2 OLED display is a great gaming monitor of any size – and the 42-inch and 48-inch models are just small enough to fit in a medium to large-sized desk. Technically, that makes them “great gaming monitors” and thus fall within my RPS trading missions. That means you can pick up the 42-inch model for £779 and the 48-inch model for £848, both of which are the best prices we’ve seen for these highly recommended TVs.
At Digital Foundry, which has a good 4K TV in stock, we strongly recommend the LG C2 as the ‘best gaming TV’ – and it also ranks highly as a relatively smaller monitor. this. To put it bluntly, even 42 inches diagonally is a sizable monitor that requires a deep desk and short adjustment time, but in return you get one of the best monitors available and The deep list of gaming features applies to both PC and console.
First: that screen. OLED panels offer near-instant pixel response times, stunning colors, and perfect blacks for technically limitless contrast. This enhances many types of content, but when it comes to gaming, you get impactful HDR – great for recent games mastered for it and older models enhanced by Windows. AutoHDR – and superb motion handling, ideal for any kind of fast motion. This makes the C2 a great product in terms of gaming and of course handy for other purposes like movies and TV and others.
Next up: gaming features. The C2 supports both FreeSync and G-Sync (and the generic VESA is the HDMI Forum VRR), so you get a good overview of PC-specific features. There are no genre-specific game modes or cheat-style games, but these are arguably unimportant in any way – at least in my book. However, unlike a gaming monitor, this TV has a built-in TV, so you can do things like watch TV or Netflix or other things. There’s also HDMI 2.1 on all four ports, so you can connect to PCs with modern graphics cards at 4K 120Hz as well as current-generation game consoles like the PS5 and Series X.
Any downside to using LG C2 OLED as display? As always, there are a few things you should know. First, there is technically possible permanent image retention, aka blowout, where pixels lose their ability to change and you may see faint afterimages when bright static content has displayed on the screen. screen for a long time. For example, you may want to hide your taskbar if you spend a lot of time on the Windows desktop or a darker background. Modern OLEDs have plenty of ways to prevent this, like dimming static elements and electronically massaging pixels when the screen is off, so personally I wouldn’t worry – but you should do your own research. problems and self-determination. Second, the LG C2 uses a non-standard pixel grid, so text doesn’t look as clear up close as it should. There is software to fix this and it’s not likely to bother you, but again, you should look at some examples online and see what you think. I don’t think either of these is a deal breaker and I’ve known quite a few people who use these OLEDs as desktop monitors with no issues, but YMMV, foreshadowers, etc.
So overall, the C2 is a surprisingly good monitor, if you can stand the size – and at this price, they’re actually cheaper than gaming monitors with similar specs. by itself, can go up to four figures for a sometimes worse HDR experience.
