Judge Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India today. He was sworn in by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  1. In his first remarks to the media after his inauguration, Justice Chandrachud said: “Serving ordinary citizens is my priority”, and promised to reform the registration and consultation process. France. He also said: “My deeds, not words, will speak”.

  8. Justice Chandrachud holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from St Stephen’s College. He later completed a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Delhi, a Master of Business Management and a PhD from Harvard Law School in the United States.

  9. He has practiced law at the Bombay High Court and High Court, and is also a visiting professor of comparative constitutional law at the University of Mumbai.

  10. He was appointed senior advocate by Bombay High Court in June 1998 and became Additional Solicitor General in the same year until his appointment as judge. Judge Chandrachud had previously served as a judge at Bombay High Court and as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.
