“The victims had respiratory failure, vestibular disorder,” Azov said.
A local source reports that the Russian military used agent Nerve GB (Sarin) in Mariupol, although there is no official confirmation.
Sarin (NATO designation GB .) [short for G-series, “B”]) is an organic phosphate compound. It is a clear to amber, odorless and tasteless liquid that is similar in appearance to water.
Sarin is considered a weapon of mass destruction. Since April 1997, the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention has authorized the production and stockpiling of sarin, and it is listed as Schedule 1 substances.
Andriy Biletsky, leader of the National Army Corps, the political wing of the Azov movement, said chemical weapons were dropped on the Azovstal smelter, and three people were wounded.
The Kyiv Independent also reported that shortly before that, Russian authorities had called for the use of chemical weapons in Mariupol.
A spokesman for Russia’s proxies in Donetsk said on April 11 that it made no sense to storm the Ukrainian-controlled Azovstal plant in Mariupol and that Russia’s “chemical forces” should “suck” instead. (Ukrainian) out.”
