Chef Kunal Kapur’s tips for making the perfect tomato-onion sauce


Indian cuisine is all about rich flavors and delicious ingredients. And, most Indian dishes are also very easy to make with readily available ingredients. One such dish is the humble onion tomato curry. If you’re looking for a mouthwatering tomato-onion gravy, chef Kunal Kapur has some suggestions. The chef shared a video on Instagram titled “Kunal’s Tips & Tricks.” In the clip, Kunal demonstrates the process of making a perfect bowl of tomato-onion sauce by adding a few ingredients that are easily available in your kitchen. In the caption, he mentions, “How to prepare the perfect onion ketchup!”

Kunal Kapur shared the following tips for creating the perfect tomato-onion sauce:

1) In the video, chef Kunal Kapur says you can just add pav bhaji masala, chhole masala, or sambar masala instead of Garam Masala while preparing the onion tomato sauce. Your onion tomato curry will be delicious if you follow this tip, he adds.

2) While making the onion curry, Kunal Kapur added some salt, black salt to taste, and a little chaat masala to the onions. Then he fried the masala over low heat. After cooking the masala mix with the onions, he added the chopped tomatoes, followed by kasoori methi and mix well.

3) Then the chef suggested to put the preparation in the mixer after it has cooled and pureed. Don’t forget to add a little water before blending.

Your onion tomato sauce is ready.

Kunal Kapur previously shared another video titled “Kunal Tips and Tricks”, dedicated to choosing the right type bhindi. Although it is a common vegetable in Indian households, buy the right kind bhindi can be quite a task. So, to make it easier for you, Kunal has outlined some tips. He recommends choosing a green bhindi that doesn’t have any black spots on them. Do not choose very small or large sized shields. Just choose the right size. Avoid buying soggy bhindis because they are old, he added. Also, make sure you don’t purchase obstructions that are held in water. Stay away from water as much as possible. Yes, you definitely have to wash it before you cook it, but after washing it, wipe it and dry it before using it again, he added.
