ChatGPT, the chatbot launched by OpenAI, is said to have started offering the Professional Plan to its users at a cost of $42 (about Rs 3,400) per month. No official announcement has been made by the company yet. However, OpenAI shared a pro-level waiting list with the perks listed earlier this month. That post wasn’t related to any specific payment terms, but the company says it’s looking to monetize ChatGPT, which stands for Chat Generative Pre-training Transformer.
openAI wrote in an announcement a week ago, “We are starting to think about how to monetize ChatGPT (first thought, nothing official to share yet). Our goal is to continue to improve and maintain the service, while monetizing is one way we are looking at ensuring the long-term viability of the service. We’d love to chat with some people for about 15 minutes to get some early responses. If you would like to chat, please fill out this form (it takes about 10 minutes to fill out).”
“Working on the professional version of ChatGPT; will provide higher limits and faster performance,” Greg Brockman, President and Co-Founder of OpenAI tweeted earlier this month along with a link to the “waiting list” to check out the upgraded version. .

While it is clear that some users have been able to sign up for a paid plan, there has been no official announcement from OpenAI yet. Pricing may be part of testing and is subject to change upon full rollout. Many online users are speculative it is a nod to the classic – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy, where number 42 is “Answers to the Fundamental Question of Life, the Universe, and All Things.” It is worth mentioning that the free version of ChatGPT continues to work and is available for use at the time of writing this story.
