Charges His March Start To Traders


Whisper Hill’s Farm Charge it has its first work since a 23-smashing win in the Dwyer Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park on July 2nd.

The 3-year-old boy coached by Todd Pletcher went four hooks on the main track at Racecourse Saratoga in: 49.06 July 30 as he begins his march to August 27 Runhappy Travers (G1) $1.25 million.

“We’re on the right track,” Pletcher said July 31. “We set our sights on having four winds (before Travers) just like we did against Dwyer. The first one went very well. I’ll do a little more in the pair next week. So far, so good.”

Pletcher said he was “very thoughtful” of running his son Tapit in Jim Dandy Stakes (G2), won by Winchell Thoroughbreds’ Epicenter July 30.

“To come back four weeks after that effort (Dwyer) and then come back four weeks later, we thought it could affect our best performance at Travers,” Pletcher said. “That’s why we decided to train to achieve it.”

The Dwyer is Charge It was the first race since finishing 17th in the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) on May 7.

Charge It, who was ridden by John Velazquez in Dwyer, has two wins and two seconds in five career starts, all this year.
