Chaos and damage in Beirut after Israeli airstrike
Israel has carried out an air strike in the Lebanese capital, saying it killed senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.
Footage posted on social media, including one filmed by BBC Persian’s Nafiseh Kohnavard, showed smoke rising above the Lebanese capital and damage to an apartment building. Emergency services were at the scene as crowds gathered outside.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has condemned “Israel’s blatant aggression” against the city but Israel said Shukr was the target of an “intelligence-based annihilation” by warplanes in the Beirut area.
