Chakda ‘Xpress: Netflix reveals behind-the-scenes look at movies led by Anushka Sharma

Chakda’ Xpress just got a behind-the-scenes trailer. On Monday, at an event in Mumbai, Netflix revealed a new look at the upcoming sports biopic led by Anushka Sharma. The film tells the story of former Indian cricket captain Jhulan Goswami, who played a key role in bringing women’s cricket to fame and recognition long ago. Prosit Roy (Paatal Lok) directs the film from a screenplay by Abhishek Banerjee (Tanlines), which serves as a comeback film for Sharma after a long maternity leave.

The Chakda ‘Xpress The BTS trailer doesn’t reveal much, other than some random production clips and B-roll footage of Jhulan, played by Sharma, practicing on the pitch. It then cuts to director Roy describing the premise of Chada’ Xpress, detailing her journey from the small town of Chakdaha, West Bengal, all the way to the 2017 World Cup finals. glimpses of Sharma in short hair, describing Jhulan’s younger self – a tomboyish girl – imitating bowling techniques in his spare time at home.

“We’re trying to capture Jhulan’s raw energy and we’re trying to be as honest as possible with the story,” he added. There was also a point when real-life Jhulan Goswami appeared on set, instructing Sharma in character portrayal and technique on the field. In addition to popularizing cricket for women in India, Goswami also holds the world record for most grips in an international career, spanning more than 19 years from 2002 to 2021.

Netflix has released a announcement trailer for Chakda’ Xpress earlier this year, showing the dire situation of the Indian women’s cricket team. The stadiums are empty, there are no personalized jerseys and that sheds some light on the male spectator/fan oversaturation in the sport. “If cricket is a religion, why is man the only god?” a tagline appears at the end of the trailer.
