Centre likely to hike dearness allowance to 42%
NEW DELHI: Central government likely to increase dear allowance (DA) for more than one million employees and pensioners increased by four percentage points to 42% from the current 38% under the agreed formula for this purpose.
The seniority allowance for employees and pensioners is calculated on the basis of the latest regulations Consumer prices The Industrial Workers Index (CPI-IW) is released monthly by the Department of Labor. The Department of Labor is a wing of the labor ministry.
Talking to PTI, General Secretary of the Union of Railway Workers of India, Mr. Shiva Gopal Mishra said: “CPI-IW for December 2022 is announced on January 31, 2023. increase allowance dear calculated as 4.23%. But the government does not account for increasing DA beyond the decimal point. As a result, DA is likely to increase by four percent to 42 percent.”
He further explained that the spending department of the Ministry of Finance will develop a proposal to increase the DA along with its revenue implications and will make a proposal before union cabinet for approval.
The DA increase will take effect from January 1, 2023.
Currently, more than a million central government employees and pensioners are receiving 38% of the dearth allowance.
The last amendment in the DA was made on September 28, 2022, with effect from July 1, 2022.
The Center increased its DA by four percentage points to 38% based on the percentage increase in the All India Consumer Price Index 12-month average for the period ending June 2022.
DA is provided to employees and pensioners to compensate them for rising prices. The cost of living increases over a period of time and is reflected through the CPI-IW.
The allowance is periodically revised twice a year.
