The Boston Celtics have reached their offseason garden of forking trails. After failing in the NBA finals, they now seem ready to bid farewell to their youth, and potentially become a fulcrum for their suffocating defence.

Based on Shams Charania of the The AthleticBoston Offers Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Round One choose for Kevin Durant. Then of ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Celtics are ready to flip the first three times unprotected in 2025, 2027, 2029, plus the first round swap in 2024 and 2026, and Brown in exchange for Durant. That’s a significantly higher payload than Charania’s original tweet, which sounds more like a conversation starter than a serious offer. However, the Nets, who were perpetually dissatisfied, reportedly objected to the request to include Marcus Smart.

The question Boston has to ask itself is this one. Should they go all-in on a tectonic deal for an aging Kevin Garnett Durant that will change the balance of power in the short term? Or go ahead and trust that their additions along the margins, including the healthy Malcolm Brogdon, and the continued growth of Brown and Jayson Tatum have pushed them above?

There are conflicting reports on the seriousness of these negotiations, but when the Nets and Celtics talk about the trade, ears are automatically raised. Durant was traded to a team he lost in the post-season that he felt familiar. So does a proposed trade between the Celtics and the Nets. This time, the roles are reversed. Acquiring Durant would be a significant shift in direction for the Celtics, who have been accumulating draft capital over the years and forgoing deals for A-list talent. We know what Ainge will do, but that regime ended when he left last summer.

In 2017, the Celtics compiled a deal package for Paul George that included first-round picks, but declined to include Brown or Tatum. Four years ago, they refused to unload Brown, Smart, and more to Kawhi Leonard. Leonard and Kyrie Irving could be enough to lift Boston past the Durant-Steph-Klay Warriors. But it will also make their roster barren as Irving and Leonard have their eyes on Los Angeles and Brooklyn.

George and Leonard are on the verge of freedom. They’re teammates now in LA, where they’ve struggled to sync up their health and make it to court together. In 2019, Danny Ainge contemplated throwing a king’s ransom at the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for a year of Anthony Davis. Davis would serve a dual purpose of also luring Irving to re-sign because of their friendship. However, Davis’s father may have inadvertently saved Boston from mistake after observing Irving, he quickly thanked his welcome in Brooklyn.

Unlike Davis, Leonard, and George, Brown remained under the team’s control for two more seasons until he was able to test his freedom. Durant has three more years left on his contract, but he also carries the Kyrie contagion that Boston vaccinated himself against three summers ago. Their team chemistry is at an all-time high. They just brought “The President,” Brogdon to everyone on the matter. Brown was the ultimate diplomat, although his name was mentioned in more commercial rumors than as a prisoner. It wouldn’t be surprising if there was some animosity erupting internally and Brown’s tweet in response to rumors expressed his displeasure, however, it was nothing short of a contract. maximum and a title down the line could not be reassured.

On paper, Durant has a point. He’s about to have a season where he’ll be runner-up for the scoring title if he has played enough games to qualify. Minimum 58. Durant competed in 55 after injuring MCL in his left knee.

Durant likes to play alone and he It’s also quite effective. He has the fifth highest points per possession of any player scoring at least 100 points in iso sets and the fifth highest effective on-field goal ratio. His ability to cause instant attacks when his teammates are in drought may be what the Celtics dictate. Their encounters with the famine that struck had been a recurring problem.

The argument against Brown’s current and future bets on Durant would be that Golden State favors a deal that sent Kevin Love to the Warriors to Klay Thompson in 2014. Brown offers sentimental value, but in his mid-20s, he’s only been named to a single All-Star game.

However, he couldn’t stay still. Durant has made himself a superstar while away from home. He should keep a company looking for followers to look for opportunities when he inevitably encounters adversity. What happens when Ime Udoka tries to put some of that tough training on a 34-year-old Olympian who has grown to dislike the Steve Kerr brand of coach?

Leonard, Davis, and George is an exercise in trust. This isn’t a lot of crapshoot though Durant has his quirks. Durant leaps better, but is also prone to injury.

Does Boston regret it in the long run?? Ability. However, the chances for championships in the modern era have shrunk. You can no longer predict which young stars will be in their prime five years from now. Jayson Tatum can complete sleeveless shirt arc he was provocative by dressing the Lakers in purple and gold as he became a free agent. Durant’s extension will take him until 2025 when Tatum can exercise his player option. Those are three chances of winning titles before Tatum considers his options as Durant turns 37. In short, Boston becomes the favorite in 2023, and how proud the New Englanders still celebrate that 2008 NBA title, only a title would be worth it.
