Gary Palmisano, Jr. has been promoted to Racing CEO for Churchill Downs Incorporated, the company announced Monday. In this role, CDI said Palmisano will “support and enhance the Company’s commitment to the U.S. thoroughbred livestock and racing industries and focus on implementing the standards and procedures outlined in in the Equestrian Safety and Integrity Act” on all CDI racing properties.
Bill Mudd, President and CEO at CDI, said: “Gary brings a wealth of diverse industry experience that is ideal for him to succeed in this role. “In addition to strong relationships with key stakeholders, his unparalleled passion and vision for the sport will ensure that Churchill Downs and its racing properties remain leaders. Leading the way in a rapidly evolving industry.”
Prior to this promotion, Palmisano held a variety of roles at Churchill Downs Racetrack including Special Assistant to the President of the Racetrack, Director of VIP Player Services, and most recently, Race Day Operations Manager. Palmisano began his professional racing career in Louisiana, where he gained experience at the Fair Grounds Racecourse and with the Louisiana State Racing Commission.
