Race veteran Kelly Cathey has been appointed racing director at Remington Park and will oversee the operation of all breeds competing at the Oklahoma City facility. The American Quarter Horse, Paint, and Appaloosa season begins March 9, with the Thoroughbred season beginning in late August.

With over 30 years of racing experience and a coach to his father, Cathey served as groom, rider, assistant coach, valet and launch assistant before moving to race track manager in 1998 at Retama Park in Texas. He has also worked for Lone Star Park, Sam Houston Race Park and Will Rogers Downs. He has been involved in peer-to-peer betting and broadcasting and has worked for the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission as a state manager, rising to the role of executive director on 2015. He will leave that position to become the racing director at Remington Park

“Remington Park and Global Gaming are delighted to have Kelly Cathey join our racing team,” said Matt Vance, executive vice president of racing operations at Remington Park. “Kelly has a resume that reflects over 30 years in the sport, working as a racing driver and manager. His extensive experience with both Thoroughbred and Precious Horses and their respective organizations throughout the region makes him uniquely qualified to lead our racing division at Remington Park. .”
