Castrating Pablo Escobar’s hippos – BBC News
When drug lord Pablo Escobar died in 1993, who had built a billion-dollar cocaine empire, he left behind a zoo.
While his rhinoceros, giraffes, elephants and kangaroos were reared, hippos were left on Escobar’s abandoned farm in rural Colombia.
In 2007, they started going 100 km away.
Veterinarian Carlos Valderrama was called in to deal with the problem. He describes his experience castrating a hippo in the wild.
