Carrot cake – A beautiful message

Easter may not be a huge event in my house, but I love to celebrate the seasons of the year! I really struggle with what to call the carrot shaped pastries.

I thought about “carrot dessert ideas” or maybe “crescent-shaped carrots” but this is where I landed, I guess.

This is a fun and SUPER easy dessert you can make to celebrate spring or Easter with lots of different filling ideas, including the one I used.

Depending on what you fill with these, I can see this being a delightful dessert that you can serve at the end of a meal, or a breakfast pastry, or a light meal for dinner. party or eat with other sweets.

I did a bit of experimentation when making this recipe. I tried making these carrot-shaped pastries from three types of store-bought crusts. This is the result.

Crescent moon

Hitherto, crescent roll dough is the easiest to work with. There is no need to defrost and the dough can be easily shaped and baked quickly. Crescent rolls are also versatile in that they can be filled with sweet or savory fillings.

Puff Pastry

The next best option is puff pastry. Frozen puff pastry will need to defrost before you can shape and bake it, but I prefer the taste of the puff pastry to the crescent-shaped roll (so I think it’s worth the effort).

You’ll want to take extra care when shaping the carrots to make sure the seams are pressed tightly together, or they can swell when baking (see photo above).

Phyllo’s crust

I also tried the frozen phyllo crust. And while it did technically work (it kept its cone shape and fully baked), it wasn’t the best choice for these, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

To make these, simply make a cone out of aluminum foil (it can be mostly hollow), spray with nonstick cooking solution, then shape the dough around them.

Beat the washed eggs and then bake according to package directions (puffs will bake longer than crescent rolls).

I used a pack Banana pudding and then fold in a cup and a half Whip to multiply these. Then I garnished with a sprig of mint to give the carrot top shape.

You can use all other fillings like other puddings, no cheesecake fillingpastry cream (store-bought or homemade), chopped fruit with a layer of Nutella (or other desserts), or you can try savory fillings such as homemade french onion dip.

If you choose to use savory fillings, I would consider switching the garnish from mint to parsley or maybe even cilantro.

These easy spring-themed pastries are perfect for Easter dinner

  1. Shape the aluminum foil into a small cone.

  2. Spray with non-stick cooking spray.

  3. Wrap the dough around the cones with aluminum foil, pressing the seams together.

  4. Brush with egg wash, optional.

  5. Bake according to package directions, depending on whether you’re using crescent or puff pastry.

  6. While baking, mix pudding together and place folds in Cool Whip.

  7. After the crust has cooled, pour in the pudding filling.

  8. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
