Carney Chukwuemeka: Chelsea reach agreement on permanent transfer of young Aston Villa player | Football news

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Aston Villa for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka for a fee of £20 million.

The 18-year-old has been allowed to travel to London to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical examination.

He made 12 Premier League appearances last season but only started twice and it is understood he wants more top-flight time.

At the end of July, Sky Sports News reported that Chukwuemeka – who was part of the England Under-19 team that won the European Championship this summer – not interested in discussing a new contract with the club He has been with him since he was 12 years old.

Barcelona have shown interest, while Borussia Dortmund inquired about signing him and Chukwuemeka was keen to speak with Dortmund about the possibility, they saw the opportunity presented to other young export players of the club. He is like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.

Steven Gerrard has previously confirmed he is part of his plans for the season, although he has been ruled out of the team’s summer tour in Australia, saying: “The best for him is to continue his exercise regimen back to Bodymoor (Heath training center).”

The Blues have signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, along with teenagers Eddie Beach from Southampton and Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal.

‘£20m is a good deal for Villa’

Sky Sports News Chief Reporter Kaveh Solhekol:

“He’s been described as one of the best young players in England, the reason Aston Villa sold him was because he only had one year left on his contract.

“When it became clear he would not sign a new contract, he was dropped from their squad for their pre-season tour. Aston Villa are ready to let him go as long as they get the right price. From Villa’s point of view, £20m for an 18-year-old, is a good deal.

“He was also part of the England U19 team that won the Euro Under-19s last month and he was on the Team of the Tournament.

“Not only have Chelsea signed big-name players like Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling, they’ve almost taken a parallel approach this summer, buying some of the best young players in England.

“They signed Omari Hutchinson, an 18-year-old winger from Arsenal, and they also added Carney Chukwuemeka.”

Reddy: Chukwuemeka is a gem of Villa Academy

Sky Sports News senior reporter Melissa Reddy:

“Chukwuemeka is a very good player. At 16, he is considered the best 16-year-old in the country, he started for Villa’s U23 team and is the jewel in their youth system, who they are very proud of.

“It’s very surprising – not in the way that Chelsea have produced a few shocks – but it is thought that he will go elsewhere in Europe. Dortmund are very interested, as are Milan, Barcelona have advanced very much. It’s just the pricing that takes those teams away.

“Even though he’s an extraordinary talent at 18, it’s still too much to pay when there’s no guarantee of how he’ll continue to develop.

“Chelsea have got themselves a kid with extraordinary vision, very calm in possession, dribbling awareness and very solid himself. I’m delighted to see how he develops if he does. have the opportunity to advance as they did at Villa.”
