MANILA, Philippines—Carl Tamayo has officially said goodbye to the University of the Philippines after two seasons in UAAP, choosing to compete in Japan in the B.League.

“I am especially grateful that my playing for UP has opened up even more opportunities and blessings. I would like to share with everyone that I was invited to compete in the B.League Japan and after consulting with Coach Gold (Monteverde), my teammates and UPMBT leadership, I decided to accept the invitation to play professionally in Japan. ,” Tamayo said in an Instagram post.

“Becoming a professional basketball player has been my dream since I started playing organized basketball. It will allow me to take care of my family while playing the game I love.”

During his two seasons in UP, Tamayo was the focal point of the team’s attack along with the league MVP Malick Diouf and J.D. Cagulangan.

The big man averaged 13.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in Season 85. He also hit a target of 13.1 markers and 7.3 goals in Season 84, which gave him a nod. Rookie of the Year.

After losing his last game of the season in December, Tamayo said he “didn’t think” about Abroad offers.

In Japan, Tamayo joins UAAP companions Kobe Paras, Dwight Ramos and Thirdy Ravena, who most recently joined club 1,000 points in B.League.

The 6-foot-6 swinger sent a deep thank you to the UP community on his way out after two successful periods in his college career.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a member of UP Maroons, it’s that we can count on the UP community to support us through any hardship. However, Cebuano has yet to reveal which team he will play for in foreign leagues.
