Mark Hughes celebrated on his scalp in the Carabao Cup as Bradford knocked out Championship Hull guests 2-1 at the Valley Parade.

Andy Cook scored twice for the League Two team, who came from behind to score their first home win in eight years.

Randell Williams set up Ozan Tufan with a fierce tackle that Harry Lewis shot over the bar – but the ball bounced back to Bradford keeper and went into the net due to an unfortunate own goal.

But the home team turned the game around with two goals from Cook within five minutes of half-time.

Luton 2-3 Newport

James Waite scored a late winner as League Two Newport put Championship side Luton in trouble in the first round of the Carabao Cup, winning 3-2 at Kenilworth Road.

Luton Town took the lead in the 30th minute thanks to a beautiful 35 yard drive into the top corner from Carlos Mendes Gomes, but was pulled back six minutes after Lewis Collins equalized.

Newport quickly responded when Tom Lockyer made it 2-1 for the hosts, when Chanka Zimba leveled for the second time just minutes later.

The Exiles booked the next round on 75 minutes when Zimba’s shot was fumbled by Matt Macey and Waite turned the home team into a loose ball.

Charlton 1-1 QPR (5-3 on penalties)

Joe Wollacott made a crucial save in the penalty shootout to put Charlton past 5-3 against QPR after a 1-1 draw.

Substitute Tyler Roberts marked his QPR debut well as the Leeds-loan striker scored a superb goal from the edge of the box with 10 minutes remaining.

However, there was a late drama when Aaron Henry rushed home just before injury time to bring the draw to the penalty spot.

Danny Rose scored a late winner as an inexperienced Reading team slipped out of the first round of the Carabao Cup after a 1-2 home loss to Stevenage.

The League Two outfit dominated a poor first half, taking an early lead when 19-year-old loanee Saxon Earley scored from inside the home area.

Reading leveled in the 63rd minute thanks to Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan’s first goal for the club but Danny Rose rushed out exactly one minute to put the Hertfordshire side through.

Cardiff 0-3 Portsmouth

Three second-half goals helped Portsmouth avenge their defeat to Cardiff at the same period five years ago as they advanced to the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 victory at the Cardiff City Stadium.

After a goalless first half, Joe Pigott, Ronan Curtis from the penalty spot and substitute Colby Bishop scored to put the League One side through.

To add insult to injury, Cardiff debutant Daley-Campbell was sent off at the last minute for a challenge with Joe Rafferty.

Morecambe 0-0 Stoke (5-3 on penalties)

Morecambe produced one of the shocks in the first round of the Carabao Cup as they beat Championship’s Stoke 5-3 on penalties after the match at Mazuma ended 0-0 after 90 minutes. .

The win was all the more memorable for the League One team as they were forced to play with 10 men for the final 28 minutes after midfielder Jensen Weir was sent off for two consecutive yellow cards.

Shane McLoughlin sealed the shootout victory with Dylan Connolly, Jonathan Obika, Caleb Watts and Donald Love all scoring from the penalty spot.

Morgan Fox was the Stoke player who missed the target and although Will Smallbone, Sam Clukas and Jordan Thompson beat Connor Ripley from 11 yards, the home team still equalized.

Blackpool 0-0 Barrow (3-4 on penalties)

Sky Bet League The Barrow sides produced a heroic display to knock champions Blackpool out of the Carabao Cup, winning 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw.

Paul Farman denied Callum Connolly from the penalty spot, before Lewis Fiorini shone with a decisive penalty to help the Cumbrians claim their first win over the Lancashire side.

Farman had previously denied Shayne Lavery seemingly ended the shootout, but allegedly moved out of his own bounds, while Chris Maxwell’s rescue of Harrison Neal proved futile.

Norwich 2-2 Birmingham (4-2 on penalties)

Norwich beat Birmingham 4-2 on penalties to progress in the Carabao Cup after throwing two goals ahead in the second half to draw 2-2 after 90 minutes at Carrow Road.

Josh Sargent converted the winning penalty after Sam Cosgrove and Jonathan Leko had their efforts thwarted by Angus Gunn in an entertaining all- Championship game.

A difficult first half with few clear chances came to fruition spectacularly with injury-time goals from Daniel Sinani and Jacob Sorensen for the hosts.

Leko halved the deficit for Birmingham before Jordan Graham’s corner faced young defender Jonathan Tomkinson, making his Canaries debut.

Oxford 2-2 Swansea (5-3 on penalties)

League One Oxford shocked champions Swansea 5-3 on penalties after striking from two goals down in the first half to tie a 2-2 draw.

Jay Fulton put the Swans ahead in the eighth minute, hitting a free-kick from 20 yards before Liam Cullen doubled the lead in the 25th minute.

Oxford pulled back a goal in the 18th minute when Alex Gorrin swooped down to save keeper Steven Benda, the ball went wide, with Cameron Brannagan’s free-kick completing the opportunity.

In the penalty shootout, McGinty saved Matty Sorinola and Brannagan missed United’s winning penalty.

Huddersfield 1-4 Preston

Preston advanced to the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 4-1 win over Huddersfield.

Tottenham loanee Troy put Preston ahead, before two Ali McCann shots – both assisted by Manchester United loanee Alvaro Fernandez – made it 3-1.

Brad Potts added a fourth, thanks to Will Boyle’s deflection, to add to Huddersfield’s misery. Jordan Rhodes scored a consolation for Freddie Woodman midway through the second half but there was no way back for Town.

Fleetwood 1-0 Wigan

Ged Garner led Scott Brown’s Fleetwood into the next round of the Carabao Cup with a first-half header in front of massive Wigan support.
