Capcom confirms Street Fighter 6 timeline location and touches on Ryu’s new look
Street Fighter 6 has been a huge hit for the time PlayStation State of Play is showing last week, revealed two more fighters, some sort of exploratory story mode, etc. While we await more details on some of those features, Capcom has revealed some information about it. Ryu’s new look and position of the game in the Street Fighter timeline.
The game’s official Twitter account shared a statement director Takayuki Nakayama confirmed that Street Fighter 6 takes place after the events of Street Fighter III. This places the game towards the end of the series timeline as Street Fighter V is set before SF 3.
Regarding Ryu’s new look, Nakayama explains his Buddhist robe, also known as kasaya, represents Ryu’s newfound dignity even though the warrior feels he’s “not there yet.” What that means depends on the interpretation, but the outfit goes well with Ryu’s dashing beard if nothing else.
“Even though Street Fighter 6 comes after the Street Fighter III series, Ryu still feels that he’s ‘not yet arrived’ – although he does appear to have gained some dignity. The way he wears his kasaya (cloak). Buddhism) is reminiscent of his master, Goken.”
