Canter for a Cause raises over $20,000 for TAA


In the record-breaking third year, 300 riders from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond walked, trotted and brought their horses across the Pimlico Racecourse on October 31 with the proceeds going to benefit the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA). In total, Canter for a Cause in 2022 raised more than $20,000 for TAA– a nonprofit that provides certification and grants to Thoroughbred post-care organizations dedicated to retraining , retirement and rehabilitation for Non-Track Purebreds.

Sponsored by the Maryland Jockey Club, this annual event offers riders the unique opportunity to walk, trot or trot around the historic Pimlico Racecourse, home of the jewel. Triple Crown quarter. Riders also have the opportunity to walk their horses through the starting gate and take pictures in the winners’ circle.

“Canter for a Cause was a huge hit last month at Pimlico,” said Maryland Jockey Club’s Vice President of Racing Development, Georganne Hale. “All the cyclists around the historic track have a smile on their face, the riders love to be photographed in the winners’ circle and all proceeds go to an important cause for the our industry– Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.”

“We are incredibly grateful to the Jockey Club of Maryland for including TAA as a beneficiary since 2019,” said Stacie Clark, TAA Operations Advisor.
