Canelo on Golovkin: “I hate him so much”
Via Sean Jones: Canelo Alvarez entered tonight’s match with a lot of hatred for rival Gennadiy Golovkin.
It will be difficult for Canelo to use his anger to his advantage as he lacks the fitness to fight actively for a long time.
In Canelo’s final match, he was left with nothing after two rounds against Dmitry Bivol, and was completely out of school for the last ten innings.
Canelo’s dislike for Golovkin could backfire on him if he crashes into the fence and exhausts himself like we saw in the second fight.
Canelo had nothing left after six rounds and had essentially lost to Golovkin the last six rounds.
Surprisingly, the umpires still gave Canelo the win, when it should have been a draw or a win for Golovkin, as he fought well enough to win one of the first six innings.
Despite Canelo dodging two defeats in matches involving questionable scoring by Nevada umpires, he’s been indignant at Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) over the past four years.
Tonight, Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) wants to compete with 40-year-old tennis player Golovkin to reduce bitterness.
The boxing public can only hope for a result as uncontroversial as the first two competitions and the judges to score the match properly.
We couldn’t get the ridiculous 10-2 score given by a Canelo-leaning umpire like we saw in the first teamfight. Arguably one could come up with a better score than that if you were blindfolded during the competition.
Canelo Alvarez said to TMZ Sport when asked if this is the angst thing he has had to fight throughout his career. “I am very hungry and very motivated for this fight. I hate that guy so much.
“I don’t know. During the second fight, he started talking nonsense about me, so we’ll see,” Canelo said when asked if he will befriend Golovkin after tonight’s game. .
“He is still strong. I saw him in his last battle [against Ryota Murata]. He’s still strong. I think he will give it all to his fight. He will be more dangerous because he thinks this is his last fight. I mentally prepare for Golovkin the best,” said Canelo.
“GGG, he took over. When he came to the United States, he took down all the people they put in front of him,” Sergio Mora told. DAZN’s Jabs. “It’s not his fault who they match him with.
“He was a big TV show, and he ended it brilliantly. He made everyone go crazy to watch GGG matches. He has Mexican style, and Mexicans love him. He has that aura about him.
“I think he’s not only a Hall of Fame doc but one of the greatest middleweight contenders to ever wear a glove. That’s a lot to carry; that is a great burden.
“Just because he doesn’t have names attached to his record doesn’t make him any better,” Mora said of Golovkin. “He beat Canelo for the first time, whether he was decided or not.
“Everybody already knew that. The second was another close fight. I believe this third war and a lot of people in the business, we will have a clear winner.
“It’s not just because of their age and acquaintance that they don’t like each other. They are bitter opponents. So with a stiff competition comes a sweet decision. I think this time we will get a sweet knockout. That was great for everyone around and we finally made it,” said Mora.
“I couldn’t agree more that it’s not Golovkin’s fault that he can’t get the big names,” Mannix said. “If you look at all the big names that avoided him during his early years.
“From Miguel Cotto, Sergio Martinez, and even Canelo made him wait a few years longer than most people would have liked him to wait for that battle to happen. The fact that you are what your resume says you are.
“You are only as good as the fighters you beat. I look at Jacobs’ fight; it was a huge win. I see Lemieux as a quality win. Then there is a decline in its competitors.
“All I am saying is to answer the question, who is this war more important to? I think Canelo’s legacy is largely gratifying, largely established. He’s the undisputed super mid-ranger.
“He has been fighting battle after battle for almost a decade now. He is, for me, safe. Mr Mannix said Golovkin was a bit more questionable at the top.
“I will turn the tables with you. Andre Ward made the Hall of Fame, and I think he’s a great fighter, one of the greatest of the last 20 years,” Mora said. “I believe he was in the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
“Who was the biggest opponent he was the best at? Which Hall of Fame did Ward beat? “Mora said.
“He beat Sergey Kovalev twice and won the Super Six 168 pounds [tournament]Mannix said.
“It was his last fight. Which boxer did he beat in the Hall of Fame before? “Mora said.
Mannix said: “He beat everyone but Lucian Bute at 168, then went to 175 and went up against Kovalev, who was at the peak of his strength, ‘The Krusher’.
“It’s completely different. Those two are terrible examples. “
“No, they are not bad examples. Look, I believe Ward is a great fighter and belongs in the Hall of Fame,” Mora said. “I only make one case where Golovkin is also a First Voter’s Hall.
“It is not his fault that he has been placed in an era where he is not in the Hall of Fame. He doesn’t have great old lions he can take over. It’s not his fault, nor is it Andre Ward’s fault.
“He just hit everyone they put in front of him. If Kovalev is a name you’re setting the bar high for, it’s his last fight and Kovalev isn’t even in the Hall of Fame. So the same thing here with Golovkin,” said Mora.
“Okay, two things. Firstly, Kovalev hasn’t retired yet, so we don’t know what will happen once his career has been said and done,” Mannix said. “Do you or do you watch the Super Six tournament on Showtime?
“Those are all the best at 168. Andre Ward was in that tournament and he was not the favorite. He beat all the top guys [Mikkel Kessler]including Carl Froch at the last minute and established himself as the top man in the super-middle class.
“Apples and oranges compare the resumes of Andre Ward and Gennadiy Golovkin,” says Mannix.
Mora said: “Gennadiy Golovkin has at least faced the Hall of Fame. “Why are we turning this into a resume? I just compare the two. Canelo is a great fighter. Canelo is a Hall of Famer, and Canelo is a recognized name worldwide.
“That’s what Golovkin lost. Andre Ward is always perfect throughout [his career]. Yes, he wiped out a division, but which Hall of Fame is in that division? That’s just my argument right there.
“Golovkin is in the same rhythm. It doesn’t matter who he beats. What matters is how well he beats them and how he wipes out a division as well as in middleweight,” Mora said.
“Not necessarily. Technically, he didn’t knock out the middleweight division,” said Mannix.
“All I’m saying to get it back in full circle is that this fight is more important to me than Golovkin because he needs that top flight name on his résumé. Someone will overtake Jacobs as his best win, and Canelo Alvarez will overtake Jacobs in first place,” Mannix said.
