Canelo chooses Bivol because ‘he’s the Easiest’

Via Huck Allen: Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero says Canelo Alvarez picked Dmitry Bivol to hit his next fight because he’s the “easiest man” to hit 175th for the next match on DAZN pay-per-view on May 7 .

Canelo (57-1-2, 39 KOs) will be looking to become a two-time light heavyweight champion as he challenges the undefeated Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) for the WBA title at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas .

Three years ago, Canelo promoted to 175th and beat WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev by 11th round knockout to become four-place world champion on November 2, 2019, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Bivol, 31, was a bit younger than Kovalev at the time he played Canelo three years ago, so it could be a little more complicated this time around.

Interestingly, Canelo has yet to appear in the fight with Bivol. When looking back at Canelo’s recent video, he’s still roughly the same size he was in his final battle against Caleb Plant last November.

When Canelo moved up to 175 to challenge Kovalev for his WBO title in 2019, he had plenty of muscle for that bout, vascularized almost like a bodybuilder.

To try and maintain that size will be difficult for Canelo, so he wisely moved down to 168.

Rolly: Canelo defeats Bivol

“Canelo vs Bivol; I feel like Canelo will destroy him because Canelo destroys everyone,” said Rolly Romero to Fighthype. “I didn’t take anything away from Bivol. If Canelo duel, it means Canelo will win.

“There are many other options. So Canelo fought, that means he found it to be the easiest way“Rolly said, alluding to that Saul was a cherry picker.

“If he fights, I’ll take Canelo,” Rolly said, saying boxing fans are pushing for Canelo to take on the next David Benavidez. “You can’t beat Canelo in all of these games.

“If you take Canelo, there is a 95% chance you will win. It doesn’t matter who he fights. Canelo can fight Tyson Fury, and he’s going to win a decision somehow. I wouldn’t say he won the match, but there’s a lot of money behind Canelo right now.

“Perhaps Tyson Fury is a bad example. He [Canelo] can go right now in cruiser class, and I assure you Canelo will win. Yeah, Canelo can fight anyone and he’s going to win,” Rolly said of Canelo being able to beat David Benavidez and Tyson Fury.

Looks like Rolly has a bad case of hero cult when it comes to Canelo. It’s clear that he won’t beat Fury, and whether or not he can beat David Benavidez. With not fighting Benavidez, Canelo need not worry about losing.

Mayweather taught Alvarez a lot

“I respect him as a man. Everyone talks about his body shots, but I think his best punch is his left hook. That left hook is very fast. He just threw that ***,” Rolly said of Canelo. “I think it was his best punch.

“I think Canelo is an excellent fighter. I think Floyd [Mayweather] Fighting taught him a lot, and I think he learned a lot. I think he’s an excellent fighter. I can’t take anything from Canelo.

I support the gingerbread man, You know? I think the gingerbread guy is #1 pound-for-pound right now, and after I beat Tank, Rolly is #1 pound-for-pound,” Rolly said.

Maybe Canelo wouldn’t like Rolly saying he learned from Mayweather because he lost that fight.

Whatever Canelo learned, it was the little things with the shoulder roll and upper body. Canelo can’t duplicate the mobility that Mayweather once had, and his willingness to rush.

Rolly (14-0, 12 KOs) fights May 28 against ‘regular’ WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (26-0.24 KOs) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight will be shown on Showtime PPV.
