Via Knitting Ambrosio: Eddy Reynoso says he’s supportive of the idea for his undisputed super-middleweight champion boxer Canelo Alvarez to defend against John Ryder mandating his WBO next, likely in the UK.
Ryder’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, contacted Reynoso about his fight with Canelo (58-2-2 39 KOs), and he concurred with that. Fighting in the UK will allow Canelo to try and expand his fan base in a showcase match.
However, it is possible that Ryder will upset Canelo if he plays like that against an opponent. Zach Parker.
Reynoso is confident that Canelo will be physically ready to fight in May following recent left wrist surgery. Canelo will start training on the bag in January to get ready for his left hand.
‘The Gorilla’ Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) defeated Parker in stoppage time in the fifth round last week on November 26 to claim the currently vacant WBO super-middleweight title in London.
Canelo may have picked a rematch with WBA lightweight champion Dmitry Bivol, but he wanted to tune in to check his surgically repaired left wrist before committing to that risky fight.
Ryder, 34, could ruin things for Canelo if he can come up with a good game plan. He upsets the odds in his last two fights, defeating Parker and Daniel Jacobs.
In 2019, Ryder is said to have been robbed during a match against the WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith.
“He is in the area where he is recovering. No problem, and everything is going well. We can fight in May and we’ll start attacking bags & gear early in the year so we can come back in May,” Eddy Reynoso told. ID Boxing about Canelo Alvarez’s return from left wrist surgery.
“Yes, we talked about that. It was an interesting battle. It can happen in the UK either in Mexico or even in the US,” Reynoso said when asked if Eddie Hearn had texted him about Canelo going up against the next WBO mandatory John Ryder.
“Ryder is having a good run and has had some good teamfights. We will be ready for that fight.
“It was an interesting fight, one guy came forward and was aggressive. He’s won a lot of games, and it’s going to be an interesting game,” Reynoso said.
Canelo is about to have a decisive victory in the 12th round close to Gennadiy Golovkin in September last year. It was not a great performance from Canelo, as he was out of breath in the following rounds.
