Canelo Alvarez defends Gennadiy Golovkin in September

Via Brian Webber: Canelo Alvarez decided to fight his third fight with Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17 after his second clash with Dmitry Bivol. Canelo said the match against Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) will be announced in “next days.“Canelo will defend his four super-middleweight titles against Golovkin.

Canelo’s plan was for him to defeat Golovkin and then face Bivol in a rematch later. We probably won’t see Canelo take on Bivol again until next May.

Considering the level of trouble Golovkin caused Canelo in their first two bouts in 2017 and 2018, it’s unclear if he’ll make it to the rematch against Bivol without being beaten again. .

If Golovkin studies fast, he can take out Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) his second consecutive defeat with according to the blueprint created by WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs).

If Golovkin could follow the exact blueprint created by Bivol, he could not only defeat Canelo but end his career.

In his decisive 12-round unanimous decision on 7 May, Bivol outplayed Canelo with combinations and taking advantage of his limited fitness.

Luckily for Canelo, Golovkin has his own fitness issues, as we saw in his recent intense fight with WBA middleweight champion Ryota Murata on April 9. Golovkin looks ragged after three rounds, and the only thing that saved him was his strength.

Murata beat Golovkin like a drum in the first five rounds, and things looked bleak for the Kazakh boxer.

In the sixth installment, Golovkin turned the tide by landing a large right hand on Murata’s head, knocking his mouth shut.

After receiving that punch, Murata was left with nothing, helping 40-year-old Golovkin easily control the fight and win the ninth round.

“We already have that contract [with Golovkin]that deal, so we have to continue what we started,” Canelo told ESPN’s Knockout.

“I think those are the two biggest fights in boxing, the fight with Golovkin and the rematch with Bivol,” Canelo said, sounding a lot like promoter Eddie Hearn in those words.

“Unfortunately we lost, but that doesn’t mean I won’t try again,” Alvarez said of the Bivol loss.

If Golovkin is able to raise his game and deliver synergies, he could cause an upset with Canelo. The thing is, Golovkin isn’t a combo puncher, and he doesn’t have the same motivation as Bivol gave him in the win over Canelo.

Bivol looked like he was fighting in his first match against Canelo and showed no signs of fatigue, even in the ensuing rounds. One has the feeling that Bivol could have blown Canelo away if he had taken it out of the first gear and pressed him hard on the final laps.

“The key thing here is persistence, and we’ll do it again,” Canelo said. “What is certain is that we will be back in September. And in the coming days. WI will announce the war. ”
