Cancer: Cocktails contain plant compounds that can stop cancer growth by up to 80%, study warns
Better screening services and early detection have significantly improved survival rates, but the disease remains incurable. Furthermore, the cells of the melanoma must be treated early to prevent invasion of nearby tissues. Researchers have explored various ways to tackle this disease, and many believe that natural compounds may have anti-inflammatory value. According to their research, a cocktail of six plant compounds containing cancer-killing cells can stop the disease from spreading, by regulating hormones and inflammation.
In the original study published in the Journal of Cancer, researchers found that six natural compounds killed 100% of sample breast cancer cells when combined.
These compounds are derived from a wide range of vegetables, fruits, spices and plant roots.
Lead researcher Madhya Raj, PhD, Research Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, said: “One of the major causes of breast cancer recurrence and death is breast cancer mortality. caused by a small group of cancer stem cells. but avoid therapy.
“Commonly multidrug-resistant cells have the ability to generate new tumours, so it is critically important to develop new approaches to more effectively and safely treating or preventing breast cancer. “.

For their study, the researchers looked at compounds known to have protective phytonutrients, before deciding on six.
The six compounds include curcumin (turmeric), isoflavones (soybeans), indo-3-carbinol (cruciferous plants, C-phycocyanin (spirulina), resveratrol (grapes) and quercetin (found in fruits, vegetables and tea).
There is substantial evidence that each of these compounds plays a role in inducing tumor cell death, but research suggests they may work more effectively when combined.
To probe their effectiveness, the researchers tested each compound independently on both breast cancer cells and control cells.
DO NOT MISS
Applied only, the effect of each compound is negligible.
However, when taken together, the phytonutrients suppressed breast cancer cell growth by more than 80%.
The cocktail appeared to inhibit the migration and invasion of cells, and triggered a response that resulted in the death of 100% of the cancer cells in the sample.
Furthermore, in previous work, the team showed that two of the compounds synergistically effectively killed variant cancer cells.
Cancer cells rely on estrogen to grow and develop, so treatments are primarily aimed at blocking hormone receptors from binding to estrogen.
Another documented cancer defense mechanism for plants is their ability to suppress inflammation.
Chronic inflammation is a precursor to many diseases, but it contributes significantly to cancer because it directly damages cells’ DNA.
As damaged cells proliferate, they eventually form malignancies, which continue to metastasize to nearby tissues.
