Birute Mary Galdikas, the Canadian researcher who devoted herself entirely to orangutan study and preservation, has passed away. Galdikas held the distinction of being the sole surviving figure among an celebrated trio of primatologists — a group that also included Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey — collectively referred to as the “trimates.”
