Can Gennadiy win the war with Murata?

Via Sean Jones: Gennadiy Golovkin has done his part to put himself in position for a three-part battle with Canelo Alvarez in September on the DAZN PPV by defeating Ryota Murata last weekend in Saitama, Japan.

The way IBF middleweight champion Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) struggled early against 36-year-old WBA 160-lb champion Murata (16-3, 13 KOs), was enough that a lot of people didn’t’ didn’t want to waste their time seeing GGG take on Canelo for the third time.

Fans don’t feel that 40-year-old Golovkin is young enough to beat Canelo at the end of his career, and they don’t want to sit back and watch one of their favorite boxers get beaten up by the odds. quiet 31-year-old young Mexican star.

Golovkin is almost family to some fans, and they don’t want to see him lose to Canelo, who waited four years after his last match in 2018 to finally agree to face him. third time.

Now, Canelo (57-1-2, 39 KOs) must win a match against Dmitry Bivol on May 7 to set up a third match against Golovkin.

Canelo is widely considered the favorite when facing undefeated WBA lightweight champion Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs), but that doesn’t mean it.

Sean Jones predicts Bivol will have a one-way win on May 7 against Canelo, and he won’t let the referees ruin things like they did in the two Golovkin matches at that venue.

Alvarez has been lifting his record for years, picking those who were supposed to NEVER be world champions in the first place.

Bivol is far more talented than anyone Canelo has faced in years, and he was able to defeat him on Cinco de Mayo humiliatingly at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Golovkin got into trouble soon

“Ryota Murata is 36 years old, so it’s not like a young boy can pull him apart in a couple of innings,” said Gareth A. Davies. TalkSport Boxing in reaction to Gennady Golovkin’s ninth-round knockout win over Ryota Murata last Saturday night.

“One of the greatest middleweight fighters of all time, Gennadiy Golovkin in one of his last bouts will be so. He’s 40 years old. We’ll take a look at his fight with Ryota Murata, which led to the Saul Canelo Alvarez trio fight.

Davies said: “He’s 40 years old and doesn’t need to roll for many more years, he got his win tonight at Saitama Super Arena, a great arena that I love.

“He won, he raised his hand and he shows glimpses of classic Golovkin,” said Adam Catterall. “But at certain points, especially early in this war, Murata achieved some serious success.

“You can’t help but think that if you go to the third season with Canelo, he will get the most out of the bodybuilding that Murata did early on and he will probably have more success than the man from Japan. Copy.”

To be fair, Golovkin Murata has tremendous power, and with the throws he throws, he has beaten everyone that Canelo has beaten to become the undisputed champion of the division. 168.

Murata is a better fighter than Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding

Should GGG still be undefeated?

“I had it 114-114 in seconds [Canelo vs. Golovkin] fight, and I scored 115-113 for Gennadiy Golovkin in the first fight. I think it’s very harsh at this point without a win in those two games.

“I think you’re right what you’re saying there. There are two ways to look at it. i think it [Canelo-Golovkin 3] could bring something great because these two boys are brilliant.

“But I just have a funny feeling that where Canelo is now, he is not on the other side of the mountain. He’s still going up the mountain, and he’s getting bigger, he’s getting stronger and he’s going to be up against killers week in, week out.

“He is constantly being compared, while you have Golovkin, who has been out for a long time. He came back today, and, yes, he was very tired. He looked a bit sluggish early on. That’s right, he put his foot down in five hours and got the job done and failed his men doing typical Golovkin things.

“Personally, as a Golovkin fan, I don’t need to watch him get beaten up by Canelo. I didn’t have to watch it,” Adam said. “He became the second in the unified team [it after age 40], which is absurd. It is an extraordinary thing to add to his ledger what he has done over the years.

“Everybody knows my thoughts on the two Canelos [vs. Golovkin] fight. i think he [GGG] should still be classified as undefeated, although in [Sergiy] Derevyanchenko fights, I think Derevyanchenko could have beaten him, but that’s another debate.

“He has a formidable chin, Golovkin. Adam said.

Sean Jones believes Golovkin should remain unbeaten, but with two draws in a fight with Sergiy Derevyanchenko in 2019 and in a rematch with Canelo in 2018.

Golovkin didn’t do enough to win either of those matches, but he didn’t lose them. Decisive victory over Canelo is not easy, even if your name is Golovkin.

Canelo must defeat Bivol

“I worry. It will be super average compared to Canelo if Canelo get past Dmitry Bivol on Cinco de Mayo, fighting in Las Vegas. I don’t like Gennadiy. His legacy was contaminated with the first fight. there [against Canelo in 2017].

“They are [Golovkin and Canelo] both have big contracts. Canelo calls his own tune, right? Eddie Hearn has revealed that the third, trilogy battle is due in September. Apparently, Canelo had to go see Dmitry Bivol on the Cinco de Mayo on the first Saturday of May in Las Vegas.

“The matches have not been signed as we understand. Gennadiy, Tom Loeffler and his crew will be looking at that and wondering about it. Gennadiy is probably only one battle maybe two.

“The sporting ambition, the legacy he was able to create will make it possible for him to walk away, and to many of us have said in boxing that he has beaten Canelo twice, despite the schedule. History has not been kind to him.

“They have a lot of thought to do, but they will wait until May 7. I think they will see the results [for Canelo vs. Bivol]and then I think he has a big decision.”

You hate to say it but Canelo is losing to Bivol next month, and that would be a huge mismatch. That doesn’t mean Canelo and Golovkin still can’t fight. Fans will still want to see the two of them fight despite.

Canelo’s fans won’t jump over if Bivol humiliates him on May 7. Those fans will still be there as they will minimize Canelo’s losses by pointing out that Bivol has the advantage in size due to him being a natural heavyweight.

Big pension day

“He’s never been a super central defender, Golovkin, and then the great man from Kazahstan can opt out,” said Gareth. “He was already a very rich man, but it was a BIG war globally, and he could walk away with $20 million from that fight. So I think he’ll take it.

“When you look at the guys with the best chins in boxing, what comes to mind is Rocky Marciano, George Chuvalo, Carlos Monzon, Kid Gavilan, Jake LaMotta, undefeated Carmen Basilio. He was without a doubt physically a phenomenon. I always thought that about him,” Gareth said of Golovkin.

“He can always grab it, but that’s how he slips and throws punches. I didn’t like the way he was caught early in the fight against Murata and the body too.

“You know, the body loses tension when you hit your late 30s. Human men aren’t designed to be elite in their late 30s unless they’re heavyweights. He [Golovkin] That’s very wonderful.

“I am very interested in Gennadiy. He had a great chin, and he always had amazingly powerful jumps, which made him one of the most feared boxers in the world at 160 pounds for a while. very long time.

“He was a brilliant middleweight, and one of the all-time greats in that league. I think there are only a handful of boxers in that division that have won world titles in their 40s.”
