Now Campo’s game in limbo is listed for December 2029 on Steamthis almost certainly doesn’t make any sense, but it’s fun to shake off some of the memories.

Previously Steam didn’t have any hard and fast rules for how games display release dates, but a fairly recent updateintroduce some new policies standardize date display (however, these policies still allow ambiguous “Coming Soon”) display.
Chances are, the updated release date is an undetected bug or a technical change meant to keep the Steam site alive for another six years. The first and only trailer for In The Valley Of Gods gives a 2019 release date, meaning that if the game releases in 2029 it will be ten years late. Perhaps it was a strange prophecy. Half-Life 3 seems to have continuously started and re-started development, so I suppose it’s never too late for In The Valley Of Gods to return.
When the game was paused, the co-founder of Campo tell polygon that In The Valley Of Gods “definitely looks like a project that people can and can come back to.” He went on to say, “when that happens, we’ll find a fun way to let the fans know.” I’m not sure if updating the store page’s release year is a “fun way” to announce a game again, but my guess is that crazier things have happened.
I enjoyed the exploration, map navigation, and hiking simulation elements in Firewatch and would love to see them in another walking simulation, especially one with a more complex, dangerous setting. like the ruins of Egypt. Hopefully, Valve will unearth this soon.
