Callisto Protocol PC patches restore full “yes it’s okay” glory

Since its release last Friday, Callisto . protocol the developers at Striking Distance Studio, I can only imagine, extremely hard at work on the PC build. The game is almost unplayable on PC as shader compilation causes stuttering whenever anything new happens for the first time, which is not ideal in any game, but not especially an atmospheric horror game with jump scares. It’s hard to fear something if the game pauses for more than a second when that happens.

Anyway, the problem is that one patch was released over the weekend and another yesterday. I’m out of town now so I can’t install the second one, but I played the first one, and you know what? The Callisto protocol runs smoothly for me, using a PC of recommended specs.

This place has a way of changing you, metaphorically but also literally, in the same way that people transform into – y… You know what I’m saying? What am I getting here?

This effort at least means that the game has climbed to Mixed Rating status on Steam. It’s a pity that something like this happens, because on PS5 the Callisto Protocol looks really impressive. You put your work out into the world, you want it to be judged on its merits. You don’t want people not even being able to find value because of technical issues.

The point is, for what it’s worth, I still think the Callisto Protocol is fine. The fusion of motion and combat controls will remain divisive, it won’t have NG+ until next year, and it’s really just some sort of self-broadcast. As I said in a support postThe Callisto Protocol seems to think it’s a prestige horror movie like, you know, Genetics or The Babadook when it’s actually an Eli Roth movie.

That’s not to make judgments about the different genres of horror, because one of the most annoying things about the term “honorable horror” is that it undervalues the subgenres of horror. other weird. I absolutely love different genres of horror. A gory thriller can be as good as a relatable movie that makes you think – but not if it embarrasses you for what it is. You need a consistent tone to create a consistent experience

Jacob walks into a room in the Callisto Protocol full of murdered sentinels hanging from the ceiling
But what about the room full of hanging corpses and organs? represent?

Callisto Protocol is a game where you stomp on corpses like balloons! You throw mutants into the mantle and it’s bloodshed! A character does many monologues, the content of which can also be replaced with “I am evil”! Rely on it. Enjoy it. Don’t be ashamed! You don’t have to pretend that it is anything more than it is. That’s why “new experience” instead of “new game” in the title menu makes me pretty dumb. The Callisto Protocol actually does some cool things with its system and even the battle doesn’t have to be as winding as you might think, but the game is so focused on prestige and spooky that it doesn’t want ruin. experience with such trivial shit as powerful turorialising.

So update: Callisto protocol works pretty well on PC now. There are some good things about it, but. You know. Yeah okay. Kind. Pick it up in a sale, maybe. You will have fun.
