According to United States todaythe incident happened at Mina’s apartment around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 6. Authorities believe her 2-year-old son found an unsecured gun in her bedroom and pull the trigger. Ultimately, Mina was hit by a “single gunshot wound to the upper body.”

According to this source, police then arrested Andrew Sanchez, Mina’s 18-year-old boyfriend. United States today reports that Sanchez was booked into the Fresno County Jail. He was additionally charged with felony careless storage of a firearm and felony child endangerment.
“Detectives discovered that Sanchez had negligently left his loaded 9mm pistol in a location in their bedroom where it was accessible to children,” a press release states on each store. “While holding the gun, the child pulled the trigger and fired one shot at his mother, causing her death.”
According to this newspaper, as of Wednesday, December 11, Sanchez appears to no longer be listed as a prisoner. However, it is unclear whether he has hired a lawyer.
Additionally, detectives are said to be working to determine to whom the gun was registered. Finally, one GoFundMe campaign was launched in honor of Mina.
