“I never expected: 9 and change, but I hope she does well,” said Niall Brennan, who is depositing minors on behalf of a client. “She prepares well and she looks nimble. She looks like a grass-court sprinter. And she is very honest. She is a beautiful, medium-sized, healthy woman with excellent balance. And she is an effective motivator.”
The Hip 859 is one of 10 Irish hybrids in the Spring Sale. Brennan said the growing focus on grass racing activities in the US will make the sport attractive to domestic buyers.
“The stallion was so good – it was a top stallion in Europe – and the mare was young and could run,” Brennan said of the dark stallion’s pedigree. “Grass racing is also very popular now in the US. There’s a lot of racing on grass, even for 2-year-olds, and huge amounts of money, especially in Kentucky and New York. I don’t think people are really afraid to buy grass horses anymore, even after selling 2 years old. If you win your bet and you’re in that winner’s circle, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a grass race or a dirt race, you just have to be happy. ”

The show was halted shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, resumed just before noon and ended at 4 p.m., but conditions remained good throughout the day, according to Brennan.
“There was a lot of rain, which surprised everyone,” he said. “Looking at the forecast last night, there was nothing about it and then all of a sudden this morning we all saw this come up. We got some hot programming and they called right to suspend it. The sky became heavy and there was thunder. It rained for an hour, an hour and a half. There’s a lot of water, but they give the track a chance to drain, they make a mess. It was a great surface that they had this much rain and half an hour after it cleared up we were back in the air. The track was in excellent condition. “
The undercover program continues through Saturday with sessions starting daily at 8am. Spring Sale will be held from Tuesday to Friday with bidding starting every day at 10:30am
