BSNL expects to achieve net profit in fiscal year 2026-27: MoS Devush Chauhan

State-owned telecommunications company BSNL is expected to turn around, generate net profit in fiscal year 2026-27, with the implementation of the approved revitalization measures, Congress has approved. announced on Friday.
Loss of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Co., Ltd (BSNL) is pegged at Rs. 3,589 crore for the period April-September 2022-2023 when it achieved an income of Rs 9,366 crore and incurred a total expenditure of Rs. 12,956 crore, Communications Minister Devush Chauhan said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
In 2021-22, the loss is Rs. 6,982 crore, compared to an income of Rs 19,052 crore and expenses of Rs. 26,034 cores.
“BSNL is expected to generate net profit in fiscal year 2026-27 with the rollout of the revival package,” Chauhan said.
Cabinet approved revival package for both BSNL and MTNL in 2019.
Furthermore, the Union Cabinet in July 2022 paid out Rs. 1.64 lakh crore revival pack for BSNL. Recovery measures focus on infusing new capital to upgrade BSNL services, allocate spectrum, reduce stress on balance sheet, strengthen fiber network by consolidating Bharat Broadband Nigam Limited (BBNL) ) with BSNL.
As part of Cabinet approval, an investment of Rs. 22,471 crore was approved for BSNL as an equity infusion over a 4-year period from 2022-23 to 2025-26 through budget allocation.
This will be used by BSNL for capital requirements including 4G mobile service.
“The revival packages approved by the Cabinet will strengthen BSNL in telecommunications services including in rural areas and will facilitate the mission of providing digital connectivity in rural and Also, BSNL has planned to procure 1,000 sites to provide 4G services under the `Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission,” Chauhan said.
Chauhan informed the House of Commons that with the government implementing the approved recovery measures, BSNL is expected to turn around with net profit in 2026-27.
