HARRISBURG, Pa. — A suspect in the murder of four University of Idaho students has been arrested in eastern Pennsylvania, a law enforcement official said Friday.

A law enforcement official confirmed the arrest to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were unable to publicly discuss the details of the investigation ahead of an official announcement scheduled for Wednesday. Six.

The students – Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin – were stabbed to death at a rental home near campus in the early morning hours of November 13. The killings initially prompted law enforcement. Legally bewildered, investigators were unable to name suspects or locate the murder weapon for weeks.

However, the case was uncovered after law enforcement asked the public for help in finding a white sedan seen near the house around the time of the murder. The Moscow police department made the request on December 7, and by the next day, they had to send a message directly to a special FBI call center because of the overcrowding.

Goncalves, 21, of Rathdrum, Idaho; Mogen, 21 years old, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Kernodle, 20, of Post Falls, Idaho; and Chapin, 20, of Mount Vernon, Washington, are members of the university’s Greek system and are close friends. An autopsy revealed that all four were likely asleep at the time of the attack. Some had self-defense wounds and each was stabbed multiple times. Police said there were no signs of sexual assault.

Safety concerns also led the university to hire an additional security company to escort students on campus and the Idaho State Police to send soldiers to help patrol the city’s streets.
