Bruce Willis , who recently retired from acting due to a diagnosis of aphasia, has had one of the most successful careers in Hollywood and is considered by many to be a legend and a veteran. But while Willis has played a variety of roles throughout his career, his most iconic role is that of John McClane in Die Hard and all of its sequels.
In 2022, on the 34th anniversary upon the release of the first Die Hard movie, Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Hemming Willis posted a video of the actor on top of the Fox Plaza Skyscraper, which is the tower that serves as Nakatomi Plaza’s location in the film, the headquarters of the Nakatomi Corporation, where most of the film’s action takes place when John McClane frees a series of hostages from a terrorist group played by Hans Gruber, played by Alan Rickman.
The footage begins by showing Willis at the top of the tower and is followed by a reconstruction of the film’s highlights.
Before Die Hard, Willis was known only as a television actor and the role was given to action heroes much larger than the time before landing in the hands of Willis. According to reports, both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone turned down the role.
When Willis was cast in the role, everyone agreed that it wasn’t a great idea and that the movie wasn’t going to do very well. However, Die Hard went on to become the highest-grossing action film of 1988 and even earned itself four Academy Award nominations. Thus, Die Hard gave Willis his big foray into Hollywood.
The video posted by his wife caused fans to express their love and respect for the actor who has now quit his job due to a diagnosis of aphasia. Aphasia is a brain condition that interferes with a person’s ability to communicate. It interferes with speech expression and understanding, rendering Willis unable to act. Willis still has unreleased projects he was involved in before Aphasia started, so the big screen has yet to see the final Bruce Willis installment.
