Brooks excited with second NZB ready for sale

Kit Brooks is preparing a second horse sketch under his own banner for sale at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale on November 16-17, but still has some new points for horsemen about the event This year, with it being the first to have a live online auction, the sale took place 12 months ago.

Covid-19 restrictions left the normally lively Karaka area vacant as the decision was made to catalog last year’s sale through NZB’s online platform, with Brooks’ KB Bloodstock operation sold 8 of their 12 lots offered for a high of NZB $180,000.

Brooks, an international polo player and longtime jockey, prepared a 17-horse stretch for his KB Bloodstock campaign following the success of his maiden appearance and , while the work on the ground for him and his team is still a long way off. crazier than when they started doing spot checks, he was amused by the presence of a bustling international shopping bench in Karaka.

Brooks told ANZ Bloodstock News: “We’re pretty happy (with our draft). “Last year was our first year and unfortunately the sale became an online show. So this is the first year we’ve actually been in Karaka with all the horses.

“We have some beautiful horses, and it would be interesting if people came to New Zealand to sell.

“This is our first year of marching and since we started we’ve been going all day. So it’s been really good. There’s a lot of people looking at the horses. The first year. There were some people in sales, but we’re all pretty comfortable in our team now. We’ve given our best and done the hard work, so we’re ready to go. Go. “

Brooks’ confidence in entering this year’s performance comes not only from the experience gained from the success of his first draft, but also from the creation of exciting maiden winners Pungo and Mojo. Risin is 2nd in the group, a son of Abyssbut also in the quality of his product offering, which has benefited from numerous pedigree upgrades in recent months.

The Penfolds Victoria Derby (G1), held just over a week ago, has resulted in a huge boost to two of Brooks’ offerings, with the Cambridge-based horseman providing more than just one horse. son of Almanzor —Same male as the race winner Manzoice—But also a half-sister to Manzoice by Shoot to win.

Trusted by South Island breeder and longtime customer Stephanie Hole to Brooks, the group 3 winner Choice was one of two fillings Hole bred to form part of the KB Bloodstock draft, with Brooks also presented the only lot offered by Vinery Stud’s stallion of late more than ready.

“The Shooting To Win naturally jumped to the top of the list after Manzoice won the day before, but she’s a lovely chubby. She’s interesting to us,” Brooks said.

Cataloged as Lot 57, the Dark Horse is the fourth horse outside of Choice, who has a pony coveted by Too hot .

The More Than Ready to fill out of Benatina (Bernardini ) (Plot 25) comes from one of the most powerful families in the Book of Stud, featuring the winners of her fourth dam group Triscay, La Baraka, Alizee and Astern. She has also benefited from a notable upgrade, being the same family as Maribyrnong Trial Stakes winner Zulfiqar.

The pair were the two fastest to fill at the exchange, held on October 17 and 18 in Te Rapa, daughter of Shooting To Win, with a time of: 10.31 for the 200-meter outs. hers, while More Than Ready filly was only a hundredth of a second slower.

“Stephanie Hole is a great breeder, we’ve received some beautiful fillings from her. Both are very nicely bred and have some nice pedigree updates,” Brooks said.

Almanzor’s foal, a non-British Shower Of Roses mare, is one of five 2-year-old ponies for sale, which Brooks sourced from hunting dogs.

Operating on behalf of his Brooks ranch, Brooks paid NZB 150,000 to the son of the Cambridge-based Almanzor stallion. Classified as Lot 267, Almanzor’s foal stopped the clock at: 11:15 to show off.

“The Almanzor pony is right there, there’s a lot to choose from and we’re pretty lucky with the horses we have in our draft,” Brooks said.

“Last year there were four of our (horses) and this year five. We’ve enhanced the exam this year with what we’ve bought. There are four ponies and a pony, everyone is a pony. a beautiful horse.”

Brooks dedicated a special mention to his pony among the winners listed Volcada by Zoustar one of the two ponies of the Widden Stud stallion in the Ready-to-Run Sales program.

He will also introduce a brother to the winner of group 2 Shamusa horse prepared by Brooks himself for a 2 year old sale in 2020 in Karaka, where he reviewed a draft of Woburn Ranch, which sold for NZ$85,000 and a foal of Charm Spirit The half-brother of New Zealand Derby (G1) winner Hades, who goes by the name Helene Vitality, also has notable success in Hong Kong. “Zousar is a lovely pony and probably my pick of the bunch, but we’ve got a few nice ones,” says Brooks.

“Shamus’s brother is also very nice. He is very likable. He is a bigger horse but he is really motivating and develops great and I think he himself will become a useful horse .

The move to come up with his own easy draft was a ‘reasonable progression,’ according to Brooks, the New Zealand polo player and former equestrian who equipped him, according to Brooks. His riding skills have helped him transition into the world of purebreds.

“We’re trying to grow our brand and get some better quality horses (for preparation),” Brooks said.

“I’ve always been into racing, but polo and showjumping give you many different aspects of how to deal with horses.

“We broke in Savvy Coup, Madison County and White Noise more recently. We love breaking in by horse and it’s exciting to see the ones we’ve broken and succeeded, but we wanted to develop business and from there this was the next logical step. It all just evolved on its own and really went from there.”

Among the graduates of last year’s draft was the first winner Pungo, selling $180,000 NZB, who is amassing more followers, less so because of his success on the track, which is his celebrity-owning group, which includes New Zealand cricket legend Brendan McCullum and All black rugby stars Beauden Barrett and Israel Dagg.

The 3-year-old boy coached by Chris Waller, who finished fifth in the Carbine Club Stakes (G3) in the spring, was bred by another good Brooks client in Jomara Bloodstock, run by John’s Carter siblings , Mark and Racheal and whose color was worn most recently Verry Elleegant during her time in Europe.

“Pungo is pretty exciting for us. It’s great to have people racing with him, but he’s a really good horse,” Brooks said.

New Zealand Bloodstock’s Two-Day Ready Sale will go live on Wednesday at 11am local time.
