Britons are confused after BBC weather app gives them forecast for Ghana
Britons were left baffled after their BBC weather app told them their location was in Ghana – instead of where they actually were.
The BBC says it is working with Apple to fix the issue caused by a bug affecting iOS users.
The popular weather app says people across the UK are living in the West African country of Ghana, including the coastal cities of Aim or Takoradi.
Confused users took to social media to ask the BBC why their app assumed they were in Africa.

One said: ‘Why does my weather app think my location is Ghana when I’m actually in Leeds, UK?’
Others raised concerns that their phones had been hacked: ‘Serious question. Just opened the BBC weather app, it says local weather is Takoradi in Ghana – I’m in Leicester.
‘Could this mean someone hacked my phone? What do I do?’

People from Aberdeen, Peak District and London already have apps that let them know they’re in Ghana.
Average temperatures in Axim and Takoradi vary from 23°C to 31°C, rarely dropping below 20°C or above 33°C.
Compare averages in Aberdeen between 2C and 18C, Peak District between 0C and 19C and London between 4C and 23C.
Some find the mistake hilarious, wishing they were in a hotter climate.

A user from Aberdeen said: ‘My weather app has decided that my current location is Axim, Ghana and it is 30 degrees and very sunny.
‘Maybe I’m in some kind of quantum flux or something, when I look outside I can definitely see an almost murky corner of Aberdeen.’
Another added: ‘Funny I could swear I’m at home in Chislehurst, but my weather app tells me that my current location is Takoradi in Ghana. I will take.’

The BBC said on its weather app FAQ website: ‘We are aware of a bug in the iOS version of the BBC Weather app whereby some locations in Ghana, such as Axim or Takoradi , is displayed instead of your current location.
‘We are working with Apple to fix this issue.
‘Until we can work this out, tapping ‘refresh’ will allow the app to get your physical location. “
One user joked during the UK heatwave: ‘It’s so hot, my weather app thinks I’m in Ghana’. The BBC says it is aware of the issue and will continue to work to resolve it
The BBC says the accuracy of location detection is highly dependent on an individual’s device, its settings and how it connects to the internet.
The company says cell towers, Wi-Fi connections, and GPS can affect location services.
The weather app bug seems to be an ongoing problem with complaints on social media that have been around for more than a year.
