British tourist, 54, found dead on a sunbed in Crete
A British tourist was found dead on the Greek island of Crete as seafarers worried after they noticed he had been lying in a sunbed for hours without moving.
The 54-year-old man, presumed dead after being taken to Heraklion University Hospital, was discovered around 8pm on Saturday by bathers at the popular Stalida beach in the city of Hersonissos.
They became suspicious after the man, who appeared to be sunbathing on the shore, remained in the sun for hours without being cured.
Upon closer inspection, the bathers realized Brit was unconscious and raised the alarm.
Emergency services rushed to the scene where bathers were performing CPR in an attempt to revive the man, to no avail.
The man’s identity has yet to be released, and his body is expected to undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
