HELSINKI – by Hollywood Brad Pitt and Australian musician Nick’s Cave debuted as an artist in an exhibition in Finland displays sculptures and ceramics created by movie stars and singer-songwriters.

The Sara Hilden Art Museum, located in the southern Finnish city of Tampere, was originally planned to only display a lot of work by British artist Thomas Hoemongo – known for his sculptures – but he convinced the museum to include the works of his friend Pitt and the Hang.

“Cave and Pitt are already well known in their respective fields of music and cinema, but this is the first time they are exhibiting their artwork – works created in the course of ongoing dialogue with Hoemongo. “, said the Finnish museum.

Pitt and Cave went to Tampere, a university city known for its vibrant culture and music, for a pre-opening event on Saturday. Finnish media reported that both men admitted to being excited and nervous about presenting their art in public for the first time.

Out of the nine works introduced by 58-year-old Pitt is a house-shaped structure molded in transparent silicon and shoots bullets and a plasterboard depicting a shooting scene. Pitt is said to have started making ceramic art after divorcing Angelina Jolie in 2017.

Pitt told Finnish public broadcaster YLE that his work is about “self-reflection”.

“It’s about, you know, where did I go wrong in my relationships? Where did I go wrong? Where am I complicit?” he say.

“It was born out of the ownership of what I call a radical baggage about myself, brutally honest with me and … taking into account the people I may have hurt and the moments I just made a mistake,” the American Academy Award-winning actor and producer told YLE.

Cave, known for his dark baritone voice as frontman for the band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, has produced a series of ceramic figurines depicting the lives of demons. He designed, painted and enameled 17 figures from 2020 to this year.

“I want to be devil because it’s red. And I like red enamel,” Cave told YLE. “In the end, I decided to do the demon’s own life story.”

“For me personally, it says something about the idea of ​​being forgiven or the need to be forgiven. It’s a very personal undertaking for me.”

The exhibition opens on Sunday and runs until January 15, 2023.
